Davis Mercantile Chooses Featured Non-Profit Organization
Elijah Haven For Fifth Saturday Event In July
Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center will be the
featured non-profit organization of the day at the Davis
Mercantile Fifth Saturday Community Day July 30 from
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The merchants of Davis Mercantile,
located in Shipshewana, will donate a percentage of
the day’s sales to help the organization with ongoing
needs and expenses.
Elijah Haven provides safe housing, assistance,
individual/group counseling and education for victims
of domestic violence. The agency’s services also have
been expanded recently to include education and
outreach for the community, including local middle
and high schools.
Activities planned at The Davis Mercantile on July
30 include RAD Kids Personal Safety Demonstrations
at 1 and 3 p.m. in the parking lot behind Hostetler
Pharmacy. The Shipshewana Police Department will
facilitate this event.
Music will be provided throughout the day and a
gospel concert featuring the Emma Mennonite Men’s
Chorus will perform at 4:30 p.m. in the theater located
on the third floor of the building.
Elijah Haven volunteers will be at Davis Mercantile
to provide information on prevention and awareness
of domestic violence.
Cookies carrying information about Elijah Haven
services will be for sale at the various merchants in the
building throughout the day.
Elijah Haven operates out of offices at 201 S.
Detroit St., LaGrange. The agency has expanded its
educational, outreach and intervention services in the
county. Brenda Yoder, Education and Program Director
for Elijah Haven, is currently working with area schools
to bring the award-winning drama “The Outrage”
to high school students next spring, in addition to a
school-wide curriculum. This project is an outgrowth of
“Heat
