LaGrange County Council
The LaGrange County Council met
on December 10th for their final meeting of 2012. The meeting was opened
by a request from Park Director, Mike
Metz to encumber funds in their
unspent budget for 2012 to add with
2013 funds for the purchase of a utility
vehicle to be used on the trails of the
park system. The Council approved
the request.
Sheriff Terry Martin appeared
before the Council to inform us that
his department is out of fuel money
for 2012 and has outstanding bills for
some $9,000 in used fuel and expects
to have an additional $10,000 in
expenses in December and would need
to have an additional appropriation
for this amount. After much discussion it was decided to pay this expense
from the Riverboat fund and if needed
take the remainder from the Rainy
Day Fund.
Next on the agenda, was a request
for tax abatement for MUDDOX for
$125,000 for new equipment that is
going to be used in the manufacturing
of parts for their production of all terrain vehicles. Presently these parts are
being produced outside of the county.
The new equipment will allow them to
do the work in house and they will be
adding additional employees. MUDDOX was recently recognized as the
manufacturing and distribution business of the year for 2012 by the KPC
Business Review in Northeast Indiana.
The Council approved the request.
The Council was asked to approve
the official bonds for those elected officials that the State indicates need to
be bonded. The Auditor presented a list
of all of those offices and the amounts
set by the state. The Council approved
the request as presented.
The annual appointment by the
Council to the LaGrange County
Redevelopment Commission was next
considered. There was a motion that
Charles Ashcraft be appointed to represent the Council, from a list of seven
applicants the Council selected as their
community appointments Delonda
Young & Fred Brown. This is the only
board or commission that needs to be
appointed in the month of December
as this commission by statute has to
meet on the first working day of the
new year. The commissioners have four
persons to appoint and were to do this
at a meeting later in December.
The Council approved the transfer
of funds within departments to balance the individual line items of the
accounts. Also approved were the legal
claims for the month. The Council also
gave the Auditor approval to transfer
funds within department accounts
so all accounts can be balanced by
year-end.
The meeting was concluded with
a presentation of a plaque to outgoing
council member Fred Brown for his
eight years of service to the county as a
council person and for service on many
committees through those years.
As always, we will try to be good stewards of
your tax dollars.
