Town Ordinances:
The contractor responsible for the construction
improvements on CR 250
just west of Shipshewana has
advised that work for the winter has been suspended. The
roadway has been reopened
to normal traffic. However, the
Shipshewana Police Department
would like to caution local drivers that there is still
a considerable amount of equipment, materials and
barricades located along the roadway construction
area. Please be extra careful when traveling in the
construction zone.
Winter weather conditions often make safe travel
challenging. Allowing extra time for travel, reducing
your travel speed to an appropriate level for snow and
ice conditions, and allowing adequate distances for
stopping will help make your winter travels safe for all.
Your cooperation in clearing your driveways of s now is
always sincerely appreciated, also. Please do not push
snow out into the street. It can be dangerous for cars
and it makes it more difficult to plow the streets.
I personally want to take this opportunity to wish
everyone a happy and prosperous year in 2011. I am
looking forward to the future year and working together
for the betterment of all of our citizens and guests.

The annual Shipshewana Ice Festival was held
December 28th – 30th, 2010. The Michiana Ice Carvers
Association carved sculptures throughout the town.
Activities included competitive ice carving contests,
snowmobile drag races, a chili cook-off and many
exciting shopping opportunities. If the cold weather
continues to cooperate, you should still be able to visit
Shipshewana and enjoy the ice sculptures. While you are
in town, please remember to buy the 2010 Ice Festival
pin to receive a number of great discounts from local
merchants throughout the month of January.
The Town of Shipshewana Water, Sewer, Storm
Water Utility Bills will have a new look when you receive
them in January. You will no longer receive a post
card form. Instead, the utility invoice will come in an
envelope with a tear off stub to be returned with your
payment. Please remember to submit your stub when
returning your payment to assure that your account
is credited appropriately. For your convenience, our
drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The drop box is located inside the first set of double
doors to the Town Hall. If you have any questions
concerning your Utility Bill, please do not hesitate to
give us a call at 260-768-4743 Monday through Friday
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
