However, Westview led by Dom Neely’s exceptional three point shooting (3-4 on his attempts) took back the lead for good with 5:50 remaining. Neely also stretched the lead to 37-31 when he drained a three after a pass from Wagler. Westview was happy to come away with a victory to improve their undefeated record. Neely and Jantzi both led the team with 15 points. Wagler added six more along with his five assists. The most important stat of the night belonged to the pair of Neely and Jantzi as they went four of four from the free throw line in the final seventeen seconds. The team is having a stellar season so far with an undefeated record of 14-0. That is the best record of any high school team in Indiana. The wins have also translated into the Warriors state ranking. As of January 24th, Westview is ranked second in the state at the 2A level. Westview is also one of the six teams left unbeaten in the state, four of which are 2A teams. This season could also potentially turn into a historic season for Westview as no Warrior boys team has ever gone unbeaten. This season has already broken records as the 14-0 start marks the longest win streak to open a season surpassing the 1978-1979 Warrior team. The Warriors aren’t focusing on the unbeaten record however. Well at least the head coach isn’t. Coach Rob Yoder is more concerned with the team improving as the season moves forward. “The most important games we’re going to play all year are in the Sectional.” “If there’s games we want to win, it’s those. All we’re trying to do is improve every game so that we’re the best we can be when those games roll around,” said Coach Yoder. If the team continues to play at this level the sky is going to be the limit for the team. Coach Yoder will have the team prepared. Now it’s on the players to get them the rest of the way. The team currently has a 10-7 record with an astounding 8-3 record in the conference. The team recently finished as the runner up in the NECC tournament to Angola. However, the team was very close on their road to the NECC championship game. The first game the Lady Warriors’ played in the tournament was against Eastside. This high scoring affair ended with Westview winning the game 65-61. The game was very competitive with both teams fighting for the win all the way until the final buzzer sounded. Westview was fortunate to have junior Jeslyn Zimmerly on their side as she was far and away the best player on the court. She contributed 22 points, three assists, and a jaw dropping five steals. However, she had help along the way. Junior Skyler Carpenter posted a near double-double as she scored 14 points and ended up with nine rebounds. Senior Jade Oakley also got into the scoring as she finished with double digits at 14 points. The next game in the tournament was their best. The team was matched up against the Fremont Eagles. The game was a dominant performance by the Lady Warriors as they pulled away with a 29 point victory, 60-31. Oakley led the way for the girls as she posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Zimmerly scored ten points for the Warriors. Senior Sharick and junior Carpenter both came away from the game with nine points. Senior Candice Stutzman scored eight points and junior Kassy Zimmerman had four of her own. Senior Kelsey Christner scored five points and also had a terrific defensive performance as she came away with six steals.
