by DeWayne Bontrager, Town Clerk Questions continue regarding 700 S road project. This is a EDA (federal grant) project. The flags posted are to identify sites for soil borings to take place before road reconstruction can take place. Efforts are being made to make this stretch of road a safer place for bike and buggy traffic. The project is being advertised for bids during January, with bids scheduled to be awarded late February for reconstruction during 2011. Now with a little more patience by the public during construction, after completion, I’m sure we can all be glad with the final results. Doing some of these projects reminds me of a time when I was snow skiing at Bessemer, Michigan. At the top of the mountain, what seemed quite simple, when I came to a fork on the trail. One ski went to the left and the other to the right, landing me head on into a 24” tree. I believe my face and other body parts may have left an indent in the tree. However I survived, went back and hit the same trail only turning left with both skis and finished the course in fine shape. So it is, doing municipal or personal projects “Keep on doing until it is done right.” 2011 plans call for continued improvement of the South Main Street water main from Mill Street to Pine Street. The old 6” water line needs to be replaced and upgraded. Several streets are also scheduled to be paved. Valentine Day is the special event during February. Time for a little romance aside from every day work. “If grass can grow through cement, love can find you every time.” February 2011 Topeka Town News — From The Clerk’s Desk Page 25
