Shipshewana Police Department
Chargers Baseball, will also be on hand to speak about
“A Coach’s Perspective on Umpiring”.
Workshop sessions will cover such topics as: Plate
Mechanics & Base Mechanics, Umpiring Etiquette,
and Proper Signals & Communications. The clinic will
also include cage work where participants will have
the opportunity to call live pitches. Those attending
should bring a notebook and a mask.
“Whatever the level of baseball you are working, be
it little league, high school or college, we all need to
elevate the level of our game,” says Harold Gingerich
NIOA Baseball Chairman. Gingerich went on to say,
“I’ve been an umpire for 20 years and it’s like anything
else, if we’re not improving we are hurting ourselves
and the game. My Dad was a baseball and softball
umpire, so I grew up around the game but I still had
a lot to learn. I’m so thankful that when I was starting
out, some of the older guys in our association took
me under their wing. At first they were really hard on
me and I was pretty discouraged, but then I realized
it was because they saw potential in me.”
