Hometown Treasure Photo This year’s Shipshewana Ice Festival Pin Design winner was announced on Monday, Nov. 5 at Westview Jr./Sr. High School. Levi King made the announcement and revealed the winning design to those in attendance. The designing of the Ice Festival Pin started in 2008 when Mr. King designed it himself. Beginning in 2009, it was decided to let the students at Westview High School submit entries for the pin. This year there were at least 50 entries for the committee to decide on. The winner of the chosen artwork receives free festival pins and is awarded a place of honor in the Shipshewana Light Parade, held on Saturday, Nov. 10. This year, the 2nd runner up was Yeon Woo Nam, a foreign exchange Thank You student from South Korea. 1st runner up was Stephanie Hallgarth. The winner for the 2012 Ice Festival Pin was Cheyenne Charters. The light parade is the “kick-off” event for the Shipshewana Holiday Season. There will be a little something for everyone. Activities include the light parade, a free Live Nativity, an Ice Festival Queen Pageant, the chili cookoff, the competition ice carving, and many other activities. This year’s ice carving will feature 15 ice carvers. When this event started in 2008, 23,000 pounds of ice were brought in for carvers to create their masterpieces. Each year they have increased the number of pounds and last year they had 30,000 pounds of ice. for your vote, continued support, and the opportunity to continue to serve as: Shipshewana Clerk - Treasurer For another four years.
