Westview School Board
The November 10, 2011 meeting was much better attended than a
school board meeting usually is. As a
student at Westview high school, every
student in government class must
attend a town meeting and a school
board meeting. This meeting was the
last meeting of the semester for the
government class and as many as
by Luke Pamer
twenty-five students showed up.
After everyone was settled, topics
were discussed. The board discussed
the 21st Century scholarship program
in great detail. If you are not familiar
with the program, it’s a program where
the state of Indiana pays up to full
tuition for all four years if a qualified

student attends an Indiana college

grade students to sign them up.
There are three bus drivers in
training that will be ready by December 1. This should help with the shortage of substitute bus drivers this year.
The contract for next year’s diesel fuel
will be discussed next meeting.
Westview is looking at a new plan
for health insurance. There is a Wellness Clinic being considered by the
insurance committee. For a person that
is on Westview’s insurance plan, which
includes staff and their family, they hypothetically walk in and walk out without spending a dime. There wouldn’t
be any co-pay. To dip their feet into
the Wellness Clinic water, Westview is
strongly considering a mobile unit for
next school year.
There will be memory added to the
Meadowview Elementary tech systems.
The school will be switching from Novell to Windows. The initial cost looks
very expensive but it is expected to pay
off. Westview will be paying $17,640
for the switch and the added memory.
Superintendent Randy Zimmerly
will be attending a special education
meeting on law on November 18.
In sports, Rick Bontreger will take
over as head coach of junior high cheerleading. Alyse Fisher will take over as
head coach of 7th grade basketball and
Christina Hales will be head of 8th
grade girl’s basketball. Terry Bontrager
will take the duties of coaching the 8th
grade boys B team.
