LaGrange County Council The LaGrange County Council met in regular session and also special session with the LaGrange County Commissioners on July 9, 2012. Mike Metz County Parks Director made a presentation to the council regarding the acquisition of forty-five acres of ground on the south side of Dallas Lake Park property. The property became available for purchase and the LaGrange County Community Foundation (LCCF) and the Park Board arranged for the purchase with LCCF funds, which will be repaid at the time the Park Department has the time to acquire the necessary grants. Due to the addition of property to the Park System both the Commissioners and the Council are required to approve acquisition of the real estate. There was a motion to approve the addition of this property to the Dallas Lake Park and the motion was approved. The Council was next presented with a joint Commissioner/Council Ordinance to update the smoking section of our policy to be consistent with the new Indiana State Law regarding the no smoking law which took effect on July 1, 2012. The Council approved the change to the LaGrange County Policy manual. Commissioner George Bachman reported that the Shipshewana Sewer Project is moving forward and should be completed in the October/November time frame. He also reported that LaGrange County has joined with the other nine counties in Northeast Indiana to form a Commissioner/Mayors caucus to address issues of economic, community and workforce development in our area of the state. County Attorney Kurt Bachman presented the data on a $1,200,000 tech bond to finance the acquisition, upgrade and replacement of Information Technology items. The Commissioners have received bids for acquisition of equipment in the amount of $732,434, in addition there is also new software for the Auditor, Treasurer, and Assessor which will improve the efficiency of the assessing through tax payments. After discussion, the Council approved a seven year bond for $1,200,000 with the first payment to be made in July 2013. The Council next approved the minutes of June 11, 2012 meeting, the transfer between within department budgets, and legal claims for the month. There being no other business the council adjourned and the joint meeting convened. Economic Development President Keith Gillenwater made a presentation on behalf of the Major Moves finance committee regarding the possible establishment of a Revolving Loan Fund.
