Company. In the early years Schwinn’s
market was pricy adult bikes, which
sold for an average of $150.00. Their
first model was the one-speed “Roadster”. In 1908 Schwinn bought out
Arnold; however, the company’s name
wasn’t officially changed to Schwinn

Having a bike is a child’s ticket to
adventure and freedom. Growing up in
the 1950s and ‘60s, every kid dreamed

variety of extreme competitions attract
a growing number of fans. And, with
the growing number of trails, bicycling
is more popular than ever - enjoyed by
young and old alike.

L’Auto, sponsored a promotional race
they called the Tour de France. The
1,509 mile race was run in six stages
from July 1-19. Since the newspaper
was printed on yellow paper, the lead
rider had the honor of wearing the yellow jersey. The newspaper’s circulation
increased six-fold. Maurice Garin came
home the winner finishing three hours
ahead of his nearest competitor.
Racing became a platform for what
is arguably the best known bicycle
company in the world - Schwinn. To
compete with 300 other bike manufactures, Schwinn d
