A Note from the Colonial Heritage HOA Office :
Spring is in the air as we see the daffodils and flowering trees blossom in the community . With the season comes the necessary reminders to prepare for the possibility of strong storms and hurricanes . The Virginia Department of Emergency Management kicks off the season with the Severe Weather Awareness Week in March . The purpose is to educate residents on how to prepare in advance for weather events- which can occur in any season from winter ice storms , spring tornadoes , summer rainstorms , fall hurricanes and nor ’ easters !
Residents are encouraged to have an Emergency Plan and Emergency Kit prepared and ready as storms may have no advance warning . It is always a best practice to have on hand a supply of non-perishable food ( including a manual can opener , three to five days of water , medications and provisions for extraordinary medical circumstances , and an emergency supply kit . Do not forget food and water for pets ! For a complete list of recommended Emergency Plan steps and Emergency Kit contents , visit the Virginia Department of Emergency Management at : https :// www . vaemergency . gov / prepare .
