In recognition of his service to the association, the Late Dr S.P Amin received numerous awards and accolades from Lions Clubs international including the Lion of the Year Award, three International Presidents Leadership Awards, thirteen International Presidents Awards, Silver and Gold Centennial Lions and the Ambassador of Good Will award, the highest honor the association gives to its members. He was also a multi-level Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow and a Second Century Ambassador. He has also been a recipient of many other distinguished awards locally. L ate Dr. S.P. Amin, a renowned and respected philanthropist in Kenya passed away on February 27 th at a London hospital. He was 87 years old. Originally of Nairobi, Kenya, and a member of the Nairobi Central Lions Club since 1967, the late Dr S.P Amin held many offices within the Lions Club association, including Board Appointee, LCIF Trustee and LCIF Steering Committee member. He also served as an International Director of Lions Clubs International from 2001- 2003. As a medical consultant, 36 THE HEALTH TRACK he focused his expertise and experience to benefit numerous humanitarian projects to help those in need by serving in numerous professional and community organizations including chair of the Kenya Medical Association, trustee of the Physically Disabled Society of Kenya, board member of the Premier Club and honorary doctor of many institutions in Kenya. The late Dr. Amin served as Chairperson of the Lions Sight First Eye Hospital Board, his goal was to help financially constrained Kenyans, by providing healthcare to the less fortunate members of JANUARY - MARCH 2018 the society. Established in 1997, the Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital in Loresho has grown to be one of the largest eye hospitals in the area and continues to attend to thousands of ophthalmic patients and provide countless cataract surgeries. One of the greatest achievements by Dr S.P Amin was to set up the first Eye Bank in East and Central Africa and a most successful corneal retrieval program that has so far benefitted more than 5000 Kenyans to have their Eye Sight restored. Dr S.P Amin has also played a critical and vital role in developing the medical services at the M.P Shah Hospital. He was a compassionate and dedicated individual who will be missed by many especially his loving spouse Mradula, sons, daughter, 8 grandchildren, many friends and associates. His friendly smile and warm personality touched many lives and his dedication provided vision, medical services and hope to those who previously had none.
