Proper disposal of clinical
waste and PPE
Some 321 metric tonnes of clinical
waste, including personal protective
equipment (PPE) from hospitals and
clinics in Johor, were sent for disposal
during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Johor Environment Department
(DOE) director Mohd Famey Yusoff
said the waste collected and disposed
of was from the start of the movement
control order (MCO) on March 18 until
May 10.
“All waste is filtered at the hospitals
or clinics, collected and sent by
special vehicles to be disposed at 12
incinerators nationwide,’’ he said. The
incinerators are managed by seven
companies. These consists of five
government concessionaires and two
that handle clinical waste from private
medical facilities.
Mohd Famey said the quantity of
scheduled waste accumulated at sites
should not exceed 20 metric tonnes
and not stored for more than 180 days.

students still available
Immunisation services for
school children are still available at
government health facilities, despite
the closure of schools during the
Covid-19 pandemic.
Health Director-General Datuk Dr
Noor Hisham Abdullah said priority
would be given to Year One pupils.
Immunisation can be done at the
nearest Klinik Kesihatan, women and
children health clinics and District
Health offices.
“Therefore, parents and guardians
with children in Year One are urged
to bring them for immunisation after
receiving the appointment schedule
from the respective schools,” he said.
“To this end, the Health Ministry has
sought cooperation with the Education
Ministry to assist in coordinating
notification to parents and guardians
on this,” he said in a statement
recently.

was to help distribute 10,000 face
masks sourced from our sponsors.
We channelled those to over 1,500
households in several low-cost flats
around Petaling Jaya including Taman
Dato Harun and Jalan Kelang Lama, ”
said Lee.
He said that logistical assistance
was provided by a local mosque and
surau officials.“After our first project
on April 14, we organised a subsequent
initiative to acquire PPE for frontliners.
We are happy that our partners
were willing to contribute PPE to our
healthcare personnel,” he added.
