UKM’s Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz on a transformation drive to become
the best hospital in the country and possibly the region
BY CAMILIA REZALI
One of the largest hospitals in
the country, Hospital Canselor
Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), is on a
transformation drive. And once
its planned digitisation efforts
materialise, it could become
the country’s leading smart hospital.
Driving this transformation is HCTM
Director Professor Datuk Dr Hanafiah
Harunarashid, a trained vascular surgeon
who has been at the helm since mid-2017.
His aim - to make HCTM the best hospital
in the country and possibly the region.
The hospital is in the final process of
obtaining its Total Hospital Information
System (THIS).
“This will be a game-changer,” said
Dr Hanafiah, adding there will also be
a dashboard system and a large data
warehouse. Realtime data will help to
manage the hospital better.
“We are improving our WiFi
network, replacing our hardware and
communication system so that everyone
can be connected. We are also developing
apps to improve our services.
“In the long run, HCTM is hoping
to mount up to a system that involves
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a fully
automated system, transforming HCTM
into a smart hospital.”
Patients and visitors can already see the
changes at the 23-year old hospital. During
the Covid-19 pandemic, HCTM introduced
robots as healthcare frontliners to provide
services to Covid-19 patients.
The hospital delivery robot system was
developed in collaboration with Universiti
Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and DF
Automation and Robotics Sdn Bhd (DF) and
