The Happiness Lab Delegate's Guide Chapter 2 — Kindness | Page 4

02 Happiness Experiments There are many ways to express kindness and thereby cheering on the life of others. What follows below are some initial suggestions for expressing kindness; what is important is that you find what works for you and try and excel at it. Smile Sadly, in today’s society you have to be careful about who you smile at, when you smile, and how big your smile is – but all that aside – smile! 22 Wisdom The pay off of growing older is learning some of the lessons that life teaches. What about offering some time to help at your local school or youth group and share your wisdom with others? You might be surprised by the fact that you may even learn one or two things yourself. Surprise Break in to the mundane life that many people live and surprise them with your presence, a gift (some baking, perhaps?), or good news. Words Words have power. Take time to speak kind, positive, life-giving words to those around you. Listen Many people today feel incredibly lonely. Schedule an opportunity to catch up with and listen to a family member or close friend. Help From time to time we all need a helping hand: someone who cuts the grass, or paints the fence, or does our shopping for us. There are occasions when opening the door for someone or offering a neighbour a lift can make their lives that little bit easier. Bake someone a cake.
