Aspiring Entrepreneurs BEAT GRAVITY Words: Cédric Longange One of my daughters’ favourite songs is ‘Gravity’ by the gospel artist Deitrick Haddon. In that wonderful song, the author tries to make it to heaven but he is constantly pulled down by gravity. This theme inspired me to write down this article. 1. Dedication First of all, a plane is driven by a qualified professional. The actual process to become a pilot takes dedication. Entrepreneurship is not something to be taken lightly; it must be built on firm foundations and certainty. You must be competent in your field. Acquire sufficient knowledge in the business area you want to break into. If you are just wishywashy, you may sooner or later crash your business. You will not know it all straight away but you need a solid base to build on. Then you will perfect yourself along the way. 2. Law of Motion Secondly, a plane uses the law of motion in order to rise. Obviously, if an aircraft stays static, it will not fly. Similarly, if you remain in the state of dreaming to become an entrepreneur and stay inactive, you will not be able to take-off. Know what you want, learn your sector inside out then set yourself in motion. According to the Office for National Statistics, there are more businesses than ever before here in the UK. This year 18,000 “As we all know, gravity is that natural force that attracts almost everything down.” more businesses have been set-up. I do not think that those new entrepreneurs are extraterrestrials. They are human beings just like you. So go for it! 3. Motivation Thirdly, the power that propels the plane forward must be greater than the force that drags it. As one business guru said: “The best motivation is self-motivation”. The inner strength that propels you forward must be superior to any opposition. In fact, your motivation must be greater than your excuses to give up. Don
