zoning ordinances state that solar
arrays can only be installed on the
roofs of homes in residential zon-
ing districts, according to past
planning board discussions about
variance applications for solar ar-
rays. this was done to prevent
large ground-mounted solar arrays
from proliferating residential
neighborhoods and becoming eye-
sores for nearby residents, accord-
ing to planning board solicitor
