late John W. Mazzeo were instrumental in the revitalization during
that time, runfolo said.
the 20th anniversary of the station’s renovation and the town’s
sesquicentennial celebration are
coming up in 2016. the Greater
Hammonton Chamber of Com-
merce and MainStreet Hammonton—which was also instrumental
in the 1996 revitalization of the
train station—have offices in the
building that occupies the train station area on the corner of egg Harbor road and Bellevue avenue.
With all those facts pertaining to
the historic train station and the
downtown’s revitalization, there
are plans to restore the building
which is maintained by the local
Chamber of Commerce, while the
grounds are managed by the town
of Hammonton. as executive director of the Greater Hammonton
Chamber of Commerce John runfolo said, it is an ongoing process
but closer to being finalized.
“the renovations are in the planning stages because of its historic
significance. it is not an historic
building, but it is has historic significance. it is difficult and we
have to go through this process. i
am here part-time and everyone
else is a volunteer [for the Greater
Hammonton Chamber of Commerce]. We have meetings, we get
things done, but you have to go
through the process of getting bids.
We have bids for the pav[ers] out
in front [of the building]. the
pav[ers] out front is actually the responsibility of town,” runfolo
said.
Specifically, there are bids for
painting the building, which runfolo acknowledged as the most visual part of the restoration process,
and they are seeking to have the
encased windows and exterior of
the building cleaned. the order
will likely be to clean the entire
building, clean the stone sidewalk,
paint the building and clean the
windows.
“even though it is cosmetic, it is
going to be the thing that says
‘Wow, what a nice job they did.’”

the local Chamber of Commerce has thousands of dollars set
aside to restore the building that

train Station, according to runfolo. He explained the biggest
needs to improve the facility.
“if you look at all of this from an
expert’s point of view, they will say
there is, there are things that need
to be fixed. there is work that
needs to be done in the basement,
but it is amazingly in great shape.
When you go down the cellar, it is
insane how good o
