“ They ’ re asking Atlantic City Electric to provide us with the full scope of work , with locations , a detailed schedule , which weeks or months of the year , a confirmation that they also provide notice to neighboring property owners and confirmation that they provide notice to property owners between seven and 45 days prior to work commencing ,” Bachalis said .
Bachalis said that Oliva indicated a desire to discuss pruning techniques with Atlantic City Electric .
“ It creates a lot of hazardous trees . I ’ m not sure there ’ s another technique they can use to avoid that in some cases , but we ’ ll take another go at it when we get the response and set up a meeting with them ,” Bachalis said .

Menzel said that the Green Day Festival on November 5 was a success .
“ Thank you to everyone who came . Thank you to our sponsors , to the town for their support , to the police and everyone who helped to make everything happen . It was a great location on South Second , it was great weather and everyone seemed to be happy ,” Menzel said .
Bachalis agreed , noting that the table shared between the Environmental Commission and the Lake Water Quality Advisory Committee saw a great deal of people , “ only about half of whom were from Hammonton .”
“ There were people from Philadelphia . There were people from Ohio , Folsom , Brigantine , all over the place . Even at that , there were loads and loads of people , coming and going all day long . It was good ,” Bachalis said .
Menzel said that a number of gently used plastic toys were donated , along with 30 pounds of denim and approximately 20 pairs of sneakers .
“ Now , we ’ re eager to get busy with some other initiatives ,” Menzel said .
Menzel also gave an update on the Hammonton Community Garden .
“ We ’ re cleaning up and putting the beds down for the winter . We ’ ll keep meeting through the winter months , planning and making signage and things like that ,” Menzel said .
While discussing tree removal permits , the commission heard testimony from Ernesto Arevalo of 136 Maple St ., who submitted an application to remove four trees with no replacements . That application was tabled at the October 12 meeting to allow time to gather more information .
According to the application , the rationale was to “ keep the yard clean and that leaves are not a nuisance to the neighbors .”
“ We tabled that because we wanted to talk to you about that . That is not usually a reason that we grant the removal of trees ,” Bachalis said .
Bachalis asked Arevalo to explain the rationale behind the explanation , and Arevalo complied .
“ The only reason that my dad decided to do that is because they received a letter that they were getting trash in their back yard , and we had trash in our back yard . My dad doesn ’ t want to do and thought it was the trees that were making the problem . We got a letter from the township saying that our neighbor complained that we ’ re trashing their place ,” Arevalo said . Bachalis asked for clarification . “ So it ’ s not really leaves ; somebody ’ s throwing garbage into your yard and the neighbor ’ s yard ?” Bachalis said .
Arevalo confirmed that was what was in the letter . Bachalis suggested that Arevalo contact the town ’ s Code Enforcement office .
“ Frank Sacco should be able to explain the matter to you ... If , after dealing with Code Enforcement , you ’ re still interested in removing the trees , mark the trees with a ribbon and submit a new application , and we ’ ll be happy to consider it again ,” Bachalis said .
Commissioner Terri Caruso-Cafiso made a motion to deny the permit as written . Menzel seconded the motion , which carried unanimously .
The commission entertained an application from John Baker , of 500 N . Fourth St . for the removal of 11 trees with no replacements . According to the application , the reason for the removals is to clear the lot for the construction of a new house .
The commission voted to table the application pending the submission of further information .
The commission also entertained an application submitted by Jim Sassano of 447 Bellevue Ave . for lot clearing at 36-38 N . Packard St . The application requested the removal of 25 trees with 12 replacements to build four new houses .
After discussion , it was determined that Sassano was not the owner of said properties and , as such , was unauthorized to submit
