Well-attended ceremony honors Hammonton’s veterans Page 4 • Wednesday, November 13, 2013 • The Hammonton Gazette couple of words: leadership and humility. The act of humility is the act of being selfless. For our veterans, that is exactly what they have done. They have done a lack of self, joining the military and putting their lives on the line. They have defended what we have today with this great country and town we live in. It is amazing to be a part of our veterans today. The United States Marine Corps changed my life. If I hadn’t joined the Marines, I will tell you what, I wouldn’t be up here standing before you today,” Foy said. The Veterans Day ceremony at the Hammonton Middle School auditorium was well-attended, as members of the community, which included military veterans, local organization members and dignitaries joined together to pay tribute to veterans on their day of commemoration. During that day, students asked the local military veterans questions, wrote thank-you notes to them and the veterans shared stories with the students, DiDonato said. DiDonato stated that the students took home a gift that couldn’t be learned in textbooks, and he continued his presentation thanking all the military veterans for their service to the country. “Today, we cannot forget the thousands of veterans that have put their lives on the line for our freedom. On this Veterans Day, on behalf of council and the citizens of our town, I would like to thank all the men and women who have served and continue to serve our great country and those that made the ultimate sacrifice and still those missing today. God bless our country, our soldiers and God bless those families and God bless the Unites States of America,” DiDonato said. Bertino delivered a brief speech about the meaning of Veterans Day and honoring those that previously served this country. “Let us never forget that we cannot rightly celebrate the joy of our freedom, without remembering the great price that was paid for that freedom…To our veterans, we have a simple, yet heartfelt message: thank you.
