cluding absentee, provisional and
emergency ballots, were as follows:
Edward Wuillermin (HF), 2,034;
Michael Pullia (R), 2,010; Anni
Carpo (R), 2,003; Tom Gribbin
(HF), 2,000; Steven Furgione (R),
1,978; and Edward Marinelli (HF),
1,911.
DiDonato spoke with The
Gazette late on November 5, and
said he felt he would be the town’s
mayor for the next four years after
the absentee, provisional and emergency ballots were counted. He
also expressed his feelings about
Wuillermin’s win and the possibility that two other members of Hammonton First would not be elected.

ways run as a team. It appears that
I will have the honor of serving four
more years as the mayor of the
town of Hammonton, and I am anxiously looking forward to those
four more years. At the same time,
I would have liked to bring home
every member of the team. It appears we have one more seat on the
council, and maybe another in Tom
Gribbin. I remain as optimistic as
possible that we will have two
more seats. I want to thank Mr.
Marinelli who worked very hard
during the campaign. His second
time around as a public official
would have been very successful,
but it appears that will not be a possibility,” DiDonato said.
DiDonato said the town would
have to wait until all the ballots
were counted, and asked residents
of Hammonton to be patient as the
process moves forward.
“Both organizations will have to
wait for the absentee and provisional ballots, and we will wait for
the results to determine the council
seats. The people of Hammonton

need to realize that their votes do
count, and races like this prove that.
It’s very important that people go
out and be part of the process. Ultimately, I believe the people who
sit on those seats on January 1 will
have the best interests of the town
at heart and we will put this behind
us, and all work together for the
people of Hammonton. The votes
should be counted in the next week
to 10 days,” DiDonato said.
DiDonato commended Republicans Pullia, Carpo and Furgione on
their campaign, and praised Giralo
in particular.
“As far as our opposition, the Republicans ran a strong campaign.
Mr. Giralo is a good family man
and I wish him well at the school
board or in whatever he does,” DiDonato said.
Giralo extended praise to DiDonato during an interview with The
Gazette late on November 5.

leadership skills are a little bit different. I didn’t say an unkind word
about him during the campaign, nor
would I. I don’t feel that way,” Giralo said.
According to Giralo, the results
showed that voters were not overwhelmingly for Republicans or
Hammonton First.
“Even after everything is
counted, it’s still going to be close.
In all honesty, neither side has a
mandate. . . If it’s two Hammonton
First and two Republicans, that’s
even more mind-boggling, because
there is no clear mandate. Next
year’s council race will be very interesting,” Giralo said.
Giralo felt local Republicans ran
a strong race — one he said will not
be concluded until all the votes are
counted.
“I thought we ran a wonderful
campaign about the issues that face
our community. I will still stand by
that: water, sewer and taxes. I think
that going forward that the absentee, provisional and emergency ballots will be counted and at the end
of the day, we will see where we
are. I know we worked very hard
at absentee ballots, because we
knew it would be close. I think
they will trend differently then the
election did,” Giralo said.
In the school board election, retired art teacher Linda Byrnes led
the race with 2,101 votes; incumbent John Lyons had 2,046 votes;
incumbent Barbara Berenato had
2,031 votes and incumbent Robert
Bauers had 1,461 votes. Byrnes
will replace Bauers on the board.
