Hammonton Board of Education President Joseph Giralo, Sam Mento III and Manny Bermudez, who ran unopposed, were re-elected to the three open seats on the school board. The results do not include HHS student airlifted after accident at school by Gabe Donio GAZETTE STAFF WRITER HAMMONTON—A 17-yearold male student at Hammonton High School was flown to Cooper Trauma Center as a precaution for treatment of a head injury at 2:15 p.m. on October 28, Hammonton Police Captain Nick Salvatore said. “A student hit his head on the pavement when the vehicle he was sitting on started to move, according to witnesses on the scene. The vehicle was a late-model pickup truck,” Salvatore said. The driver of the vehicle was a 17-year-old male, Salvatore said. According to Salvatore, the student was transported by helicopter to Cooper Trauma Center for a head injury. “He has since been released and is doing well,” Salvatore said. 374 mail-in ballots, or any provisional or emergency ballots that remain uncounted as of press time Tuesday evening, according to Hammonton Town Clerk April Maimone. Turnout was 3,235 voters out of a possible 8,824, or 36.7 percent of the local electorate. The results, not including the mail-in, provisional and emergency ballots, were as follows: Michael Torrissi Jr. (R), 1567; Sam Rodio (HF), 1485; Steven Furgione (R), 1474; Paul Esposito (HF), 1318; Sal Mazza (R), 1243; Dan Bachalis (HF), 1213; Rock Colasurdo (D), 1203. In the school board election, the results, not including the mail-in, provisional and emergency ballots, were as follows: Giralo, 1610; Mento III, 1568 and Bermudez, 1509. Burwell announced earlier this fall that more than $15.6 million in Affordable Care Act [ACA] funding would be provided to 20 health centers in New Jersey to expand primary care services. The funding will allow local health centers to increase access to comprehensive health care services by hiring nearly 80 new employees, on a full-time basis, staying open for long hours, and expanding care to include new services such as oral and behavioral health.
