discussed the installation of new playground equipment at Hammonton Lake Park ’ s Cpt . Gerard V . Palma Memorial Playground . She said that the playground equipment had been assembled , and the contractor — Think Pavers Hardscaping LLC — was scheduled to install the rubberized surface underneath the equipment on October 20 .

In the meantime , our highway department is going to clean up the entire area , fix the one or two fence posts that need to be repaired , some sections of fence that could use some help , then refresh the mulch and refresh everything ,” Mazzeo said .
Mazzeo said that there will be an official reopening of the playground “ no later than the second week of November , we ’ re hoping .”
“ We ’ ll have a ceremony . All of you will be invited — and the public — to see the new playground opened up . We ’ re looking forward to that ; I ’ m very excited to see that project moving , and it looks beautiful ,” Mazzeo said .
Commission chair Lou Cappuccio agreed .
“ It really is beautiful . The blue really sticks out ,” Cappuccio said .
Mazzeo ’ s report also contained one use-of-facilities request , submitted by Angelo Grinceri of Happie Living , LLC . The request was for the use of the Boyer Avenue Athletic Fields for a 5K Dog Walk / Run on May 28 , 2023 from 7 a . m . to noon .

Mazzeo : Cpt . Palma Playground reopening in November
if you choose to approve that use ... I let them know that we need a map of the run ,” Mazzeo said .
Mazzeo said that the Boyer Avenue facility would be an ideal location for the event , particularly because of the presence of Hammonton Dog Park .
Commissioner Ian Fisher commented on the event .
“ Make sure that they pick up after their dogs and don ’ t let them run around . We definitely find ourselves , every time we go out there , telling people to not let their dogs run free on the fields ... There ’ s a dog park right around the corner you can go to ,” Fisher said .
Commissioner Mica McCullough inquired as to what body is in charge of the dog park , and Mazzeo replied that the town runs the park .
“ There are some volunteers that go there who are always willing to help replace the bags and things like that , and they ’ re great ,” Mazzeo said . McCullough continued . “ I didn ’ t know if this might be an opportunity to have a registration table at the event to get people involved with the dog park — or at least to know about it , or get their dogs registered with the little fob ,” McCullough said .
Mazzeo concurred about the possibility .
“ I think we should . I think it would be great if the commission members wanted to come out that day . It would be a good event to promote the dog park — and licensing of our pets ,” Mazzeo said .
Commissioner Paul Ordille made a motion to approve the request contingent on the receipt of the necessary paperwork ; Commissioner Sam Rodio Jr . seconded the motion , and the request was approved .
Before the conclusion of the meeting , Cappuccio addressed the unauthorized use of park facilities by organized groups .
“ We ’ ve always had people that want to play on these fields . They ’ re not signing up ; they ’ re just showing up and they ’ re playing . We don ’ t know if they have insurance ... if anybody gets hurt , we ’ re responsible , not them ,” Cappuccio said .
Fisher commented further , focusing on a specific recent incident .
“ We ’ ll go out there , and see a couple kids playing , and that ’ s no big deal . But this particular one ? There were full referees . They were in uniforms . It looked like an official event ,” Fisher said .
Cappuccio suggested asking Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel for additional patrols of the park facilities , as well as installing
