2018 that asplundh tree expert,
LLC would be cutting down a tree
on his property that interfered with
the wires, and would be removing
the stumps.
“Next thing i know, they cut the
top off, and it was in the secondary
wires, so asplundh couldn’t go
any further. atlantic electric cut
off the next two feet, but it was
still in the wires. asplundh came
back two or three more times, but
didn’t want to go any further until
atlantic electric removed that
four-foot piece that was still in the
wires,” Smith said.
Smith stated that he caught the
attention of an asplundh crew ap-
proximately six months later, and
they informed him that they
wouldn’t cut down the section.
Several months later, Smith spoke
with asplundh again, who stated
at that time that they had no record
of being allowed to go further by
atlantic City electric. a tree sur-
geon who worked for atlantic City
electric later visited Smith and
said they could proceed, but the
tree would be left on his lawn.
Smith declined.
“i’m tired of looking at it. at-
lantic electric has done nothing,
and asplundh, they want to leave
it on my lawn. Guess what? i don’t
think that’s right. they started the
whole procedure because it was in
the wires. Let them complete the
job and leave me out of it,” Smith
said.
Several members of the Com-
mission expressed confusion re-
garding the ordeal, particularly in
regards to the possibility of
stumps being left on Smith’s prop-
erty.
“Usually when asplundh comes
around, they have a chipper. i’m
not questioning you, Mr. Smith. i
don’t understand this at all,” Com-
missioner Michael Hozik said.
Smith explained to the Commis-
sion that his property would not be
the first in his neighborhood to
have tree stumps left by the com-
pany.
“at the next corner, they left
pieces that Godzilla wouldn’t pick
up. i don’t want that on my lawn,”
Smith said.
Caruso-Cafiso assured Smith
that the matter would be investi-
gated.
“We’re going to find an answer

Donald Pitale, of 215 12th St.,
then spoke before the Commission
regarding a continuing issue with
a tree on his neighbor’s property
which hangs over Pitale’s.
Pitale appeared before the Com-
mission during their September
meeting regarding the same issue.
at that time, Pitale was advised to
speak with Mark rogers, rental
inspection and Property Mainte-
nance Officer for the town of
Hammonton, but he has not yet
done so.
the Commission discussed the
matter with Pitale once again, and
reiterated that there was not much
they could do about the tree, but
they did offer hope.
“if it was hazardous, i would
think that Mark rogers could get
involved,” Hozik said.
During commission reports,
Commissioner alicia Murphy
gave an update from the Bicycle
advisory Committee.
the first matter was Bike and
Walk to School Day, which is
slated to be held in May.
“We’ve talked to Chief friel
about it, to see if we can get a let-
ter saying that they’re behind it; a
letter of support for Bike and Walk
to School Day,” alicia Murphy
said.
Murphy also noted that the
Kickstand Crew’s third annual
tweed ride was slated to be held
on October 13. During this tick-
eted event, participants were en-
couraged to dress in period
attire—tweed, preferably—as they
rode through a six-mile course and
enjoyed various refreshments.
“With the funds that we raise,
we’re going to get a bike fix-it sta-
tion, if you get a flat tire, but it
also has a manual hand-pump
that’s permanently outside. it’s
heavy duty for outdoor use,” Mur-
phy said.
Under old business, Caruso-
Cafiso noted that a recent project
at the Harborwood community on
egg Harbor road resulted in the
potentially unsanctioned removal
of trees, as well as the installation
of a solar array without a permit.
“a summons was issued, and
we don’t know to who. We’re in
the process of finding out if the
summons went to Harborwood, or
if the summons went to Suntuity
Solar. the solar company decided
to take the trees down and left the
stumps there... the work is com-
pleted, so they’re still working on
a summons for that. Plus, Suntuity
Solar never came back and
cleaned up the property where
they took the trees down, because
they had told the condominium as-
sociation that they were under 20
inches,” Caruso-Cafiso said.
Caruso-Cafiso stated that she
