George A . Ruggero

George A . Ruggero , 87 , of Hammonton passed away suddenly on Monday , October 2 , 2023 at home with his family by his side . Born in Philadelphia , Pa he was a lifelong resident of Hammonton . George was the proud owner of Homestead Farms in Hammonton for 58 years . Everyone who knew him , knew he had quite the green thumb and a passion for farming . He grew the best tomatoes in South Jersey . He was a loving husband , father , grandfather and friend who enjoyed cooking dinner for his family , but his greatest joy of all was just spending time with his family .
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years , Jeanne ( nee Contole ); parents , George P . and Mildred Ruggero ; his brother , John D . Ruggero ; his in-laws , Jesse and Marie Contole ; and grandson , Joseph Giannotti . He is survived by his children , Lisa Ruiz ( Max ) of Hammonton , John Ruggero ( Patricia ) of Florida , Carol Ruggero of California , and Lori Ruggero of Hammonton ; his grandchildren , Jessa Kelly ( Tom ), Maddy Ruiz-Fanz ( Colton ), and Matthew Giannotti ; and his great-grandchildren , Lennon Jean and Sonny George Kelly .
A visitation was held on Saturday , October 7 , 2023 from 10 a . m . - 11:30 a . m . at St . Mary of Mount Carmel Parish Church of St . Joseph ’ s , 226 French Street Hammonton , where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:30 a . m . Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery , 500 N . White Horse Pike in Hammonton . Frederick Damico

Frederick Damico , 86 , of Hammonton passed away October 5 , 2023 at home with his family by his side . Fred was born and raised in Hammonton . When he was a teenager he worked in his family ’ s Egg Harbor City grocery store . He later delivered for the store they called Reliable Provisions . Fred began selling cars and continued in sales and finance until he retired from Cadillac . He married Judy Beebe in 1960 and had two daughters . Fred enjoyed spending time at flea markets , hunting with his brother , but his real love was fishing and boating with his best friend Bob and sister Lorraine and brother-in-law Joe .
Fred is predeceased by his parents , Frank and Mary Damico ; his wife of 58 years , Judy Beebe Damico ; his brother , Frank ; and sister-in-law , Rosemarie Damico ; and his brother-in-law , Joseph Brown . He is survived by his daughters , Marion Damico , Brenda Damico-Kelly and her husband Michael ; his grandson , Ron Hungridge and his fiancée Maddy ; his great granddaughter , Mila Hungridge ; his sister , Lorraine Brown ; his sister-inlaw , Norma Caruso ; and many nieces and nephews . He will be missed by all .
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday , October 11 , 2023 , 11 a . m . at the Carnesale Funeral Home , 202 S . Third St ., Hammonton where a viewing will be held from 9 a . m . until 11 a . m . Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery , Hammonton . In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Mt . Carmel Society , PO Box 182 , Hammonton , N . J . 08037 .

The Hammonton Police Department reported two driving under the influence ( DUI ) arrests , including one with an underage drinker , according to Chief of Police Kevin Friel .
Corporal Kyle Ambrozaitis responded to a call about a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash in the area of N . First Road and Jacobs Street on Oct . 6 at 11:34 p . m .
The second vehicle was heading westbound on N . First Road approaching the intersection of First Road and 12th Street . The first vehicle suddenly impacted the rear of the second vehicle .
The first vehicle was driven by Colleen Salvati , 55 , of Hammonton . Salvati was showing signs of impairment , including an odor of alcoholic beverage eminating from her breath in person .
Salvati was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence . Salvati was charged with DUI , careless and reckless driving , refusal to submit to breath testing , open container of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and failure to possess vehicle registration .

Hammonton resident and an underage driver arrested for DUI

Salvati was released , pending court appearance at Hammonton Joint Municipal Court ( HJMC ).
Officer Matthew Heiser observed a vehicle failing to maintain lane of travel with its hazard lights activated at S . Egg Harbor Road on Oct . 7 at 3:04 a . m .
The vehicle was stopped at the prime block of N . Egg Harbor Road and was operated by Francisco Velazquez-Castillo , 20 , of Hammonton .
Velazquez-Castillo was found to have a strong odor of alcoholic beverage eminating from within the vehicle and was found to be underage .
Velazquez-Castillo was charged with DUI , careless and reckless driving , open container of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle , unlicensed driver , operating a motor vehicle by a person who consumed alcoholic beverage underaged , failure to maintain lane of travel , failure to possess drivers license , failure to possess registration and failure to possess an insurance card .
Velazquez-Castillo was released , pending court appearance at HJMC .
This report is comprised of arrests and investigations made by the men and women of local enforcement . All suspects and arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law .

Kiwanis Halloween Parade set for Oct . 25

The Kiwanis Club of Hammonton is sponsoring the 47th Annual Halloween Parade on Wednesday , Oct . 25 . The parade will begin at 7 p . m . Rain date will be Thursday , Oct . 26 .
The parade will originate a Orchard Street and Egg Harbor Road and then proceed up Bellevue Avenue to the Atlantic County Human Services building . Three marching bands are expected to participate in addition to several floats .
Robert ( Bob ) J . Schenk Jr . is chairman . As in the past , the parade will be judged and the Hammonton Kiwanis Club will provide cash prizes .
Anyone interested in entering a float or group please contact Bob Schenk at ( 609 ) 517-4614 . Individual participants will be registered and assembled at Orchard Street and North Egg Harbor Road at 6 p . m . on the evening of the parade . They do not have to pre-register , just sign in .
