Downtown named a ‘Great Place’ by APA-NJ

HAMMONtON—Downtown
Hammonton has been named a
Great Place in New Jersey for
2014 by the New Jersey Chapter
of the American Planning Association (APA-NJ). Now in its third
year, Great Places in New Jersey
recognizes unique and exemplary
downtowns, streets, neighborhoods and public spaces. Hammonton’s
nomination
was
submitted to APA-NJ by the Atlantic County Utilities Authority
(ACUA), according to a press release sent by the town.
Downtown Atlantic Highlands,
downtown Haddonfield, downtown Summit were among the designees, according to the APA-NJ
website.

APA-NJ invite the public to attend
APA-NJ’s recognition of this
achievement in a presentation to
Hammonton Mayor Stephen DiDonato and other municipal officials. the presentation ceremony
will be held on thursday, October
16 at 11 a.m. at Hammonton town
Hall, 100 Central Avenue. the
presentation will be followed by a
walking tour of the downtown led
by municipal officials, the release
said.
“Hammonton’s downtown has
become a source of renewed pride
for residents. Being named as a
‘Great Places’ downtown reflects
the dedication, vision, energy and
tireless work of many. Our downtown has once again become the
focal point for life in our commu-
nity. Hammonton has faced some
big challenges, but we have been
able to pool talents and resources
from businesses, professionals,
volunteers, residents and other advocates to rebuild our downtown
during tough economic times,”
Mayor Stephen DiDonato said in
a release.
“this award reflects the hard
work and passion of a diverse
group of advocates, who have
helped to make the vision of a renewed, vital town center a reality.
the town’s leaders and professionals have provided tremendous
impetus, expertise and support to
plan and build for the future,”
MainStreet Hammonton executive Director Cassie iacovelli said
in a release.

serves to underscore the role that
meaningful partnerships play in
downtown revitalization. the
judges were impressed by the
tenacity of the Hammonton revitalization Corporation, the federal
and state grant awards obtained
for streetscape improvements, the
influx of new businesses during
the economic downturn, the use of
form-based codes, the creation of
an arts district and, ah, yes, the
abundant pride shown by Hammonton’s residents,” Linda e.

Chair and one of this year’s Great
Places in New Jersey judges, said
in the release.
HAMMONtON—the Kiwanis Club of Hammonton is sponsoring the 39th Annual Halloween
Parade on Wednesday, October
29. the parade will begin at 7
p.m.
rain date will be thursday, October 30.
the parade will originate at Orchard Street and egg Harbor road
and then proceed up Bellevue Avenue to the Atlantic County
Human Services building. three
marching bands are expected to
participate in addition to several
floats.
robert J. Schenk Jr. is chairman. As in the past, the parade
will be judged and the Hammonton Kiwanis Club will provide
cash prizes. Anyone interested in

individual participants will be
registered and assembled at Orchard Street and N. egg Harbor
road at 6 p.m. on the evening of
the parade. they do not have to
pre-register, just sign in at that
time.

County Library System/Hammonton hosts Lady Hawke Storytelling
with Laura Kaighn presents Halloween tales on Wednesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. the free event
is suggested for ages five and older.
