PWTC discusses lead service line replacements

The Hammonton Public Works and Transportation Committee ( PWTC ) discussed the Route 54 project and the lead service line replacements at their meeting on Sept . 21 at the third-floor conference room in town hall .
PWTC discussed the progress made on the Route 54 project as they are looking to find ways to isolate certain sections and other design plans . Councilman Steven Furgione discussed having a meeting at the end of the year to see what they can or cannot do

before meeting with the New Jersey Department of Transportation ( NJDOT ) about asking for a possible delay .
Adams , Rehmann and Heggan ( ARH ) Engineer Linda Campbell Rehmann discussed the lead service line replacement , where she mentioned that ARH has not had much survey results , just a couple every couple of weeks . With 4,500 connections , about 1,200 residents reported and 55 people have reported as “ letter galvanized ,” with Rehmann mentioning that ARH is in the process of verifying those .
[ Municipal Utilities Superintendent Anthony DeCicco ] over the summer had a summer intern try to go through a list of 88 people , so those 55 who reported as letter galvanized and the remaining 33 were people who just said that they wanted someone to come out and look , they didn ’ t want to come in ,” Rehmann said .
The lead service line replacement plan was submitted to the state and the next step , as Rehmann added , is to start developing in greater detail how to prioritize which service line is going to be replaced first , how many replacements are going to occur a year and where the funding is going to come from .
Rehmann mentioned that per state policy on construction that regardless of construction date , everything needs to be verified unless it can be justified .
“ I think we can justify just basic construction practices that we know were in place in the town since a certain date that we have a level of comfort that there aren ’ t any so we ’ re really focused on those 2,500 [ people ] right now ,” Rehmann said .
The 2,500 residents need to be verified for the lead service line report and Rehmann emphasized that the data isn ’ t needed now but an action plan is needed as the town has 10 years to get all of the data verified .
In other business , the Old Forks Road bids will go out in October , awaiting NJDOT response , according to ARH Engineer Mark Herrmann . The pickleball courts are finished and the invoice is in but won ’ t be finalized until October .
The next PWTC meeting will be on Oct . 19 at 2:30 p . m . at the third-floor conference room in town hall .
Kiwanis Halloween Parade set for October 25
The Kiwanis Club of Hammonton is sponsoring the 47th Annual Halloween Parade on Wednesday , Oct . 25 . The parade will begin at 7 p . m . Rain date will be Thursday , Oct . 26 .
The parade will originate a Orchard Street and Egg Harbor Road and then proceed up Bellevue Avenue to the Atlantic County Human Services building . Three marching bands are expected to participate in addition to several floats .
Robert ( Bob ) J . Schenk Jr . is chairman . As in the past , the parade will be judged and the Hammonton Kiwanis Club will provide cash prizes .
Anyone interested in entering a float or group please contact Bob Schenk at ( 609 ) 517-4614 . Individual participants will be registered and assembled at Orchard Street and North Egg Harbor Road at 6 p . m . on the evening of the parade . They do not have to pre-register , just sign in .
