Vettese details municipal wells’ status for DEP ACO authorization by council

trative Consent Order (ACO) Extension the town is requesting.
Robert Vettese of town engineer
Adams, Rehmann and Heggan
spoke to the council about the
issue during the meeting.
“As you know the town, in the
last four or five years have been
very active in trying to remediate
a number of their wells. I think
starting about four years ago was
Wells 5 and 7 on 14th Street and
last year was Well number 4 on
Plymouth Road and the town was
lucky enough to, actually in the
case of Wells 5 and 7, and Well 4
received part grant, part low-interest loan for both 5 and 7 and 4 and
actually for Wells 1 and 3, which
are located on Lincoln Street,
they’re getting Spillfund money to
contract and construct or remediate those wells. Since you’re using
public funds a lot of times when
you jump through a lot of hoops to
get public funds, the schedule
short of gets, shifts back on each
of the different wells and the
town’s been pretty lucky in trying
to use their wells wisely and the
public has been very cooperative

HAMMONTON—The Hammonton Lake continues to draw
fishermen to the 75-acre area on a
daily basis, especially during parts
of the spring, summer and fall.
Trout, smallmouth bass and sunfish are stockpiled at the lake.
With its maximum depth of 10
feet, shoreline fishing and boats
without motors are allowed.
In early September, The Gazette
spoke to a few individuals who reside out of town about their fishing experiences at this particular
lake, and what brings them to the
area. The out-of-area residents
view it as a relaxing hobby.
Don Speigel of Marlton and
John Calogero of Pennsauken
grew up together in Haddon
Heights. The two had not fished at
the Hammonton Lake in quite
some time, but brought their
small, non-motor boat to the area
