Customers were lined up to have paper documents and computer hard drives shredded by Docu- Vault . HEF president Roseann Struble said that , by 9 a . m ., there were “ already a ton of cars here .”
“ So far , so good ; it looks like it ’ s going to be a great event . We had three businesses sign up , and we had a business that came already who wasn ’ t scheduled , so that was good , too ; he was our first customer . It really looks like we have steady traffic here today , so that ’ s awesome ,” Struble said .
Struble said that the HEF was grateful for its sponsors and that she was “ looking forward to another successful year .”
“ Hopefully , we ’ ll top last year ’ s numbers ,” Struble said .
As the event progressed , Michele Hetzel , who serves on the HEF ’ s Recycling Central committee with Jennifer Bill and Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel , said that the turnout was wonderful .
“ Last year , we didn ’ t have a huge turnout — I think because of COVID — so this year I think we ’ re getting a larger turnout ,” Hetzel said .
One resident who took advantage of Recycling Central was Mario Triboletti , who recently moved into a new home with his wife , Mary Lou .
“ We came just to help out with the community and the school , and to do our parts as citizens of Hammonton . We had a considerable amount ; it ’ s amazing how much stuff adds up in 40 years ,” Triboletti said . Besides the shredding services , other organizations were on site collecting used items .
Rebecca Villani , Deacon of the
Presbyterian Church of Hammonton , was collecting children ’ s books for those in need in Hammonton .
“ It ’ s going well . Last year it went so well that I didn ’ t have room , just myself , in the car , to take it back to the church . We give children in the community books throughout the year , especially at Christmas time ,” she said .
Michael Villani , the president of Hammonton Lions Club , was collecting prescription eyeglasses , prescription sunglasses and cell phones .
“ Everyone seems to be excited and dropping things off . We ’ re getting a pretty good turnout so far , and we expect a lot more . Every year , you get a lot of donations , so it ’ s a really good thing to be here ,” he said .
Amy Menzel , the chair of the Hammonton Green Committee , was there to make participants aware of the upcoming Green Day Festival on October 2 .
“ We ’ ll be doing some collections there for denim and plastic bags and gently used plastic toys ; everything gets recycled . We have
a collection container for plastic bags , if anybody wants to drop them off , but we ’ ll be back with it at Green Day if people didn ’ t get an opportunity today ,” Menzel said .
Dory Dickson , the director and co-founder of Migrant Worker Outreach , said that she was pleased to participate in Recycling Central again .
“ People donated buckets with lids , a good number of folding chairs and beach towels both used and new . We received new socks , washcloths , flip-flops , dominos and a manual can opener . Additional donations included used sunglasses and playing cards . All these items will be distributed to migrant workers during the 2022 blueberry harvest . A cash donation was made , too . The generosity of local donors helps us provide a warm welcome to migrant workers and their families . We ’ re grateful for the community ’ s support ,” Dickson said .
Det . Dave Reustle of the Hammonton Police Department was also at Recycling Central to collect
