Mary Young , the Hammonton Drug Alliance coordinator , described the registration process .
“ We have in-person registrations and curbside registration . Everyone can register at the Hammonton Family Success Center , 310 Bellevue Ave , on Mondays , Tuesdays and Thursdays , from 9 a . m . to 5 p . m . On Wednesdays , I will be doing curbside drop-off from 2 p . m . to 5 p . m . at the same location . It ’ s $ 10 for registrations . They can pay with cash or check ( made payable to HRC / HFSC ). There ’ s no mail-in this year . For ease — and for there to be no confusion — we want to do it all inperson ,” Young said .
The Town Wide Yard Sale , Young said , is a rain-or-shine event .
“ You set up at your location . It ’ s the same day as Recycling Central , so we anticipate , as usual , that it ’ s going to be a busy day . We want everybody to come out . It ’ s usually a big event . We tried it in the spring this year , which worked out pretty well , but the fall always seems to be a better time of year ,” Young said .
Young said that the Town Wide Yard Sale is “ a good community thing .”
“ Everybody seems to enjoy it , whether you ’ re selling or buying . It ’ s another thing that brings the community together . This year , people are getting out a little more . It ’ s an outside event , and I think , right now , people still like outside events ,” Young said .
As for Recycling Central , Hammonton Education Foundation ( HEF ) president Roseann Struble noted that the event is now in its 13th year .
“ It ’ s a great event every year that we do . Businesses and individuals can participate , either by sponsoring or donating , bringing in their old paper documents . It helps them , it helps the businesses ,” Struble said , adding that all documents are “ securely shredded ” by a DocuVault Delaware Valley mobile unit .
Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel , who is the co-chair for Recycling Central , said that “ any type of paper is fine .”
“ If things are in binders or files , the files without the metal fasteners are great . We limit the residential drop-off to three garbage bags .
Anything in bulk — which we do invite our community businesses , if they wish to come out to shred in bulk — we charge by weight . We would be happy to set up an appointment time . If they can contact us to set up an appointment time , that would be great ,” Friel said .
Friel said that the organizers plan for the event to be contactless in order to “ make everybody feel fine .”
“ They just have the bags ready , have them in their trunk or their backseat , and we will go in to retrieve them . We should have NHS volunteers , as well as a load of trustees from the Hammonton Education Foundation to make it a safe and fun experience to get rid of your unwanted documents and information ,” Friel said .
Friel added that the DocuVault truck will also shred computer hard drives .
“ All those old computers you have sitting in your house , you can easily open and remove the small , square hard drive from inside , to be shredded for $ 10 at the Hammonton Education Foundation ’ s
Recycling Central ,” Friel said . Struble noted an important distinction .
“ We collect the hard drives from your computer — not the actual computer . A lot of times , people will bring the actual computer , thinking we collect them , but we do not collect the computers themselves ,” Struble said .
Friel said that security is a key motivator for shredding hard drives .
“ It ’ s a great way to keep all of your information secure in a day
