The Hammonton Public Works and Transportation Committee ( PWTC ) provided an update on the road program and discussed a cultural resource survey during their meeting at the third floor of town hall on Aug . 24 .
The New Jersey Pinelands Commission ( NJPC ) wants to conduct a cultural resource survey regarding Route 54 , per Adams , Rehmann and Heggan ( ARH ) Engineer Mark Herrmann . NJPC are in search for Native American artifacts and the survey would be $ 16,000 . Herrmann and Public Works Manager Robert Vettese will meet with NJPC on the matter .
Herrmann and Vettese had surveys done regarding the parking lot remediation for K & K Linens .
Vettese mentioned that Triad Associates may get funding to put solar panels . The funding would pay for any additional remediation , installation of solar panels and the parking lot construction , but Vettese will meet with Triad Associates for further confirmation .
For the construction on Old Forks Road , Herrmann is waiting for review by the New Jersey Department of Transportation ( NJDOT ) to place a bid date . Herrmann also discussed with ARH President Rich Rehmann on the Myrtle Street proposal and provided the
committee with a report that includes surveys , base plans and studies .
The contracts for the 2023 road program are as followed : $ 25,150.50 for the micro surfacing with reclaimed asphalt pavement ( RAP ) on Peach Street , $ 126,982.12 for the micro surfacing on Grand Street , Ninth Street , 10th Street and 11th Street .
“ What they ’ re doing is they ’ re actually going to pave the gutter line almost in front of and on one end of the school property on Peach Street because if you look at one side , the curb reveals maybe six inches ,” Vettese said . “ On the school side , I think it ’ s maybe eight or nine inches so they ’ re filling that in with asphalt and all of the holes .”
For the Safe Roads to Schools
program , Vettese will email the NJDOT relating to GPI ’ s final design scope . The preliminary design by GPI was authorized by the NJDOT but the NJPC and other agencies are requiring more work , so Vettese will write a letter to the NJDOT requesting approval for the revised scope and to inquire about the funds needed .
Discussions were brought up
regarding broken bus shelters on Egg Harbor Road . The committee will discuss with Universal Supply Owner Jeffrey Umosella if the bus shelters are still needed .
The committee also mentioned the homeless situation that will be addressed at the town meeting on Sept . 11 .
The next PWTC meeting will be on Sept . 28 at town hall .
