. We just didn ’ t realize it was a variance . We believe that the benefits of the variance the board granted outweigh any detriments because it ’ s required for the security of any materials stored outside the building ,” Pettit said .
He stated that the extra two feet will cause absolutely no harm or interference with any surrounding properties in any way . Members

of the applicant was engineer Andrew Schaffer of Mays Landing . The proposal asked to have Block 2301 , Lot 62 , which currently makes up eight acres , broken into two separate plots of land . One lot will contain a single-family home and the other a duplex . They had already received permission from the Pinelands prior to their visit before the planning board . During their testimony , they withdrew the |
waiver ,” Dixon said . A motion was made with two conditions . The first was that the applicant would split the existing lot into two separate lots , 62-01 and 62-02 . The second was that a curb and sidewalk plan be submitted and reviewed administratively to the satisfaction of the board engineer . Planning board members unanimously approved the request
with these two conditions .

cleanup on Lincoln St . |
by Gabe Donio
GAZETTE STAFF WRITER
HAMMONTON — During the regular meeting of the council on
August 15 , Councilman Steven
Furgione updated the governing body and the town on the South
Jersey Gas remediation project at the Hammonton Water Department and Wawa properties at the corner of 12th and Lincoln Streets .
According to previous statements by town officials , the town was first notified in 1993 about the need for an
|
environmental cleanup of a “ coal tar ” spill at the site , where a manufactured gas plant that turned coal into gas was once located .
South Jersey Gas is financially responsible for the cleanup , according to the utility and the town . The town received $ 2.5 million from South Jersey Gas in
2007 , money town officials said at the time would be used to fund a new water supply . Municipal wells
1 and 3 are located at the water department site , underneath the
“ coal tar ” plume . In 2015 , the town received an additional $ 1.6 million
|
from South Jersey Gas for relocation and construction of several water department buildings that have since been demolished at the water department property portion of the environmental cleanup site , according to town officials .
Wells 1 and 3 are currently offline but could be turned on again . Water from the wells is blended into the entire municipal water system , as are the other wells , town officials said .
Furgione gave new information and updates about the South Jersey
