One of the concerns expressed
by the commission involved water
run-off, but Sciullo was quick to
point out the particular nature of
the parking lot material.
“that will all be pervious pave-
ment, which you don’t get to see
very often. It’s becoming a lot
more popular and efficient, and it’s
easier to maintain. So we’re cor-
recting a deficiency and we’re put-
ting in a more cutting-edge system
than what would typically be in-
stalled,” Sciullo said.
Chairperson Dan Bachalis noted
the commission’s approval.
“I have to say that seeing that
you’re going to be using pervious
pavement is a really great thing.
We’ve been trying to get compa-
nies, individuals and organizations
to use it, so the fact that you’re
using it is really very good,”
Bachalis said.
Sciullo also noted that the plan
includes the installation of solar
panels on the roofs of the buildings
to help mitigate the higher energy
demands.
Before the final vote, Commis-
sioner terri Caruso-Cafiso in-
quired as to the projected timeline
for the project.
“We think we’re going to be
closing our financing something in
November. Once we’ve closed, we
can begin construction, almost im-
mediately, and it’s probably 12
months, maybe a little more, until
completion,” Wolf said.
the redevelopment plan was ap-
proved.
In other commission news,
Commissioner Charles Crowley
will be attending the “right tree,
right Place, right Way” seminar
on friday, august 23 in Old
Bridge, N.J. topics include: sus-
tainable resilience, storms after-
math, utility mark-outs & pruning,
tree selection, maintenance, plant-
ing and more. this seminar is
worth three continuing education
units for towns with a five-year
Community forestry Management
Plan (CfMP).
this seminar comes at a critical
time for Hammonton, particularly
in light of recent storm damage in
the region.

but nothing like that yet,” Crowley
said.
the age of many of the trees in
town, coupled with their size, help
create the perilous conditions.
“the number of trees that are
over 40 inches in diameter is just
astounding. astounding. If those
trees are exhibiting some of the
problems that make them a real
hazard, we’ve really got to take a
larger, more proactive look at the
large trees we’ve got,” Bachalis
said.
Councilwoman Brooke Sacco
presented a report from town coun-
cil, noting that the town has started
to send out an electronic newsletter
designed by Denise Mazzeo, who
also runs the town’s facebook
page.
“It’s more eco-friendly than
sending out mailers. ... this is an
inexpensive, essentially free,
newsletter service that we use,”
Sacco said.
Besides the environmental im-
pact, utilizing electronic media has
another benefit for the town.
“One of the requirements for
Sustainable Jersey certification is
to start to send out an electronic
newsletter,” Sacco said.
Sacco also informed the com-
misson that Sustainable Jersey,
which supports community efforts
to reduce waste, cut greenhouse
gas emissions and improve envi-
ronmental equity, will be holding a
listening session on tuesday, Sep-
tember 17 at 6 p.m. at the NJM In-
surance Group building on 12th
Street. She urged the commission-
ers to attend.
the commission voted to ap-
proach the Parks and recreation
Department to put an item on their
agenda to approve the addition of
bicycle racks in Veterans’ Park.
they also discussed researching
various grants to purchase recy-
cling containers for the park, simi-
lar to the one on Bellevue avenue

ties authority. Commissioner amy
Menzel will look into the matter.
