Born in Elm, Nick was a lifelong Hammonton resident. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was Sgt. of Arms of Edwards and Accarito American Legion Post #398 of Elm. Nick was a selfemployed oil burner repairman. Predeceased by: wife, Mary (nee Giordano); parents, Salvatore and Vincenza. Surviving him are: children, Nicholas F. Barbagallo Jr. and his wife Lucia of Waterford, Samuel M. Barbagallo and his wife Audrey, Virginia Merrifield all of Elkins, W.Va.; brother, Phillip Barbagallo of Hammonton; grandchildren, Darnel DePalma, Brian Merrifield, Sammy Barbagallo, Rachel Mangano; greatgrandchildren, James Gorman III, Robert Gorman, Regina Mangano. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, August 22, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home followed by services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Barbagallo Sr. OBITUARIES As part of Hammonton’s Green Weekend, Goodwill of Southern NJ & Philadelphia will once again accept computers, computer hardware, monitors and other electronics at the Hammonton Education Foundation’s Recycling Central. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grounds, Third and French Streets. Through a partnership with Dell, Goodwill provides an easy way for residents to recycle these items, which are refurbished or properly disposed of so they do not end up in landfills and become environmental hazards. Their motto, “We put people to work,” is achieved by their job training and career services which help local residents with disabilities acquire job skills. Goodwill is a nonprofit community-based charity. Donations will help support their mission of putting people Recycling Central set for Sept. 14 On Wednesday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at Hammonton High School a tree will be planted outside of the Performing Arts Center entrance in memory of Hammonton High School graduate Christopher “Philly” Goodwin who passed away on May 26, 2013. Goodwin was an honor student and received the Academic Presidential Award all four years of high school. He was a member of the High School Green Club, the cross country and track teams. He holds the school record of the 1,600-meter relay. Goodwin played for the Hammonton Hawks organization and the Hammonton Little League where he was a member of several All-Star teams. The Hammonton Education Foundation is asking residents who turn in items for a $10 donation to help defray Green Weekend’s promotion and activities costs. Donors will receive two receipts, one from the foundation for the donation and one from Goodwill for the items. Recycling Central will also include a paper shredding unit and collection of eyeglasses, hearing aids, ink toners and cartridges, crayons and cell phones. All these collections will benefit the needy as well as the environment. Residents are encouraged to begin to collect these items and participate in helping Hammonton Live Green. HAMMONTON—Police are on the lookout for a possible prowler on Walnut Street after receiving several reports in the area of suspicious activity. The latest report was at 2:07 a.m. on August 15, Hammonton Police Captain Nick Salvatore said. “There was a burglary attempt in the 500 block of Walnut Street to a residence. Someone attempted to pry the side door of the residence open, damaging the door and the handle,” Salvatore said. Burger King was ordered to shut down on August 17 until the grease trap was repaired, Salvatore said. “They contacted the county board of health and we had to notify state and county officials about the roadway being closed, since it is a state highway,” Salvatore said. by Gabe Donio Grease spill at Burger King “Most of it was outside the restaurant. I don’t believe there was interior contamination by the grease,” Salvatore said. Burger King was temporarily closed by the Atlantic County Board of Health on August 17 but was reopened by August 18, Salvatore said. Traffic was down to two lanes on the road way after the initial spill, Salvatore said. Vehicles were also detoured onto Middle Road, he said. “I believe traffic was delayed several hours by lane shutdowns on Route 30. Anyone with any information about the burglary should contact the Hammonton Police Department at 561-4000, Salvatore said. “We’ve had a couple of other suspicious alarms in that area, or someone reporting they heard someone outside, with nothing taken. Located in downtown Hammonton just a few blocks from the Eagle Theatre, The Workshop will allow scenic artists to construct sets for upcoming productions that could then be transported to the theater. This would allow for additional programming to utilize the theater, according to the release. In addition, the building includes offices for recently-added full-time staff. Most excitingly, however, is the potential for it to become a second performing arts venue, the release said. “The Workshop is the ideal location for the Eagle Theatre’s second stage. It will allow our patrons to experience an alternative yet equally vital side to live theater,” Co-Artistic Director Ted Wioncek III said.
