Kelly Lynne Allen, M.D.
On August 9, 2017, Kelly Lynne Allen died at Temple University Hos-
pital after a short illne ss.
Born in Camden and raised in Hammonton, Kelly graduated from
Hammonton High School in 1988 where she was captain of the field
hockey team and an all-star bowler. She went on to receive her bachelor’s
degree in 1992 from Rutgers University in New Brunswick and then at-
tended Rutgers NJ Medical School, graduating in 1997. She completed
her residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Physical Med-
icine and Rehabilitation immediately after receiving her medical degree.
She was so competent and reliable, as a resident, that she was appointed
chief resident for two out of the three years in the program – an extraor-
dinary feat. She had a research interest in spinal cord injury and served as an expert inde-
pendent medical examiner.
She dearly loved the Sunday gatherings in Hammonton where the family would gather
around a feast that always contained macaroni and gravy. Her grandmother, Susie, held a
special place in her heart. She also loved her grandfather, Henry, and the spectacular NJ
blueberries and peaches that he and the family grew.
She savored the time with her family at the Jersey shore and loved the Philly sports
teams, especially the Flyers. Kelly was a fixture on the sidelines at countless field hockey,
soccer and ice hockey games. She served as a coach and the director of Mt. Laurel field
hockey feeder program. She loved spending time in Ocean City and Siesta Key, Fla.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Robert A. Allen, MD; her four children, Rachel, Sarah,
Rebecca and Matthew; her mother, Mary Joan Wyatt (Stephen Gruszkowski); her sister,
Sherry Scott and her husband, Kevin; her niece, Cassidy Scott, and her father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Dr. Herbert B. Allen and Laraine Allen.
There will be a viewing on Friday morning, August 18, after 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church (St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish), 226 French Street (corner of N. Third
Street), Hammonton, followed by Kelly’s Mass of Christian Burial, beginning at noon at
the church. Entombment after Mass will be held at Greenmount Cemetery, Hammonton,
NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jefferson via the website
www.Jefferson.edu/giving and in memo state Dept. of Physical Medicine & Rehab in mem-
ory of Kelly Allen. Checks may also be made out to Jefferson and in memo state Dept. of

Monday of the month.
“Green Committee met this past
Monday, the first Monday of the
month. We had guests from Buena
Township who are looking to
invigorate their green team. We are
in the thick of planning for Green

lake, so that’s really our main
focus right now,” Menzel said.
Menzel also gave an update on
the town’s community garden
which was scheduled to be a part
of a garden tour based out o f
Williamstown on Sunday, August
13.
“The garden is going great, we
have a work day on Saturday, and
we’re going to be part of a Garden
Tour, folks from Williamstown are
traveling to several different
gardens … that’ll be on Sunday,”
Menzel said.
Sacco relayed information about
bike rack installation as part of the Lake Advisory Committee report.
“The
Lake
Advisory
Committee, Dan [Bachalis] said
that they’re working with the
Public Works [Department] on the
third round of [Bike] rack
installations in town,” Sacco said.
The Commission also discussed
plans for its involvement at the
Green Day Festival and approved
a motion to look into potential
giveaways for the event within a
budget of $200.
“I make a motion to have Amy
[Menzel] pursue the giveaway, not
to exceed $200,” Commissioner
Terri Caruso-Cafiso said.
The commission also approved
a tree removal application for a
resident on Lincoln Street.
The
Hammonton
Environmental Commission’s next

clist entered the intersection when
his light was red and the White
Horse Pike light was green. The
truck struck the front tire of the bi-
cycle, causing to the bicycle to fall
but not the bicyclist,” Jones said.
The driver of the truck spoke
with the bicyclist and later turned
himself into police, Jones said.
“The driver left, turned around,
and asked the bicyclist, who was
at the McDonald’s, if he needed a
ride, and the bicyclist declined.
Later, after seeing reports about
the accident on social media, the
driver turned himself in to police,”
Jones said. Jeffrey Frank, 38, of Hammon-
ton, received traffic summonses
for leaving the scene of an acci-
dent and failure to report an acci-
dent, Jones said.
Class II Officer Gordon Ellis
