are also contributing their time and efforts
as well. the three club members met with
Mayor Stephen DiDonato and Public Works
Manager/Business Administrator Jerome
Barberio on the morning of June 18.
Schenker described the meeting as very
productive, according to the memo distributed to members of the club, as the group
exchanged ideas and discussed avenues to
complete the restoration project. He presented a proposed wish list for the pavilion
restoration and additional surrounding items
to be addressed. it was discussed at the July
1 meeting.
Schenker said he has been able to secure
an electrician for the restoration project.
George Hummel, owner of Hummel electric, will be assessing the electrical upgrades
needed.
“We already got some donations from
some local businesses to aid in the items
that need to be addressed, such as power
washing,” Schenker said.
in the pavilion, members of the club have
discovered that electric and plumbing need
to be updated, and trees have to be trimmed
that are hanging close to the facility. Additional restoration work includes power
washing and installing a new coat of paint
to the pavilion. Added items include surveillance, tables for under the pavilion and gutters and down spouts. Since the existing
dumpster is currently located in the line of
sight when looking from the pavilion and
picnic area, members of the club
have designed a location to put it in
another area where it can be fenced
in as well.
Kiwanis member Butch rodio
said the pavilion restoration committee has a tree service to trim the
trees and John Aloisio of the roof
Wizard, LLC. will do the work for
the power washing portion of the
project. A plumber is still needed to
help in the progression of the mission, but the foundation is in place
to continue to fulfill the club’s ultimate goal.
“We aren’t rushing because we
have a few years before the sesquicentennial celebrations take place,
but we are going to be working all
through this year and next year to
get it done. i would say definitely
by next summer or fall it is going to
be completed. i would like to get a
sign that says ‘Hammonton Kiwanis Pavilion,’ those lasers signs that
are really big because right now
they only have a little plaque and
you can’t even see it unless you go
behind [the pavilion] and look at it.
i want something where you are
driving by you see ‘Hammonton
Kiwanis Pavilion.’” rodio said.
in addition to the pavilion, plans
for the revitalization of the passive
recreation area of Hammonton
Lake Park by the Kiwanis Club and
