HAMMONTON—Two police
officers escaped serious injury at
10:41 p.m. on July 15 on N. Egg
Harbor Road after an alleged
drunken driver struck their 2002

Police Captain Nick Salvatore said.
According to Salvatore, the
driver of the Camaro, Pablo
Suarez-Zavala, 25, of Hammonton,
never stopped before hitting the
Gator. Lt. Kevin Friel and Det. Sgt.
Edward Slimm, who were working
late to place “No Parking” signs for
the Grand Procession of Saints on
the 16th of July, the Feast Day of
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, jumped
clear before their vehicle was
struck and destroyed on impact.
“It was bent in half,” Salvatore
said.
Suarez-Zavala fled the scene,
and was later apprehended on the
600 block of North Street, Salvatore said.
He was charged with driving
while under the influence (DWI),
leaving the scene of an accident
and reckless driving by Officer
David Reustle, Salvatore said.

On July 16, the Most Rev. Dennis Sullivan, Bishop of the Diocese

Hammonton during the Feast Day.

native Rev. Joseph Capella is celebrating 25 years as priest in
2015. Born and raised in town,
Capella graduated from Hammonton High School in 1979. After an
11-year journey, post high school,
he was ordained as a priest on
June 2, 1990 at St. Joseph Church.
Attending college at St.
Joseph’s University, Capella graduated from its business school
with a degree in corporate management marketing in 1983. After
