year,
given
by assistant
Superintendent tammy Leonard.
the HiB Grade report, given
by the New Jersey Department of
education,
reflects
school
districts’ compliance with the
anti-Bullying Bill of rights act
by allowing the schools to self-
assess and rate effectiveness of
HiB programs and investigation,
according to Leonard. the
maximum score is 78, and the
report reflects an average of all
schools in the district being
graded.
according
to
Leonard,
Hammonton School District’s
HiB Grade report for the 2017-
2018 school year is as follows:
• early Childhood education

• Hammonton School District
average: 70
“We have increased our efforts
to provide training to help all staff
members, including hall monitors,
cafeteria
workers,
paraprofessionals and bus drivers
to recognize and respond
appropriately to potential HiB
incidents. We continue to strive to
improve the climate in our schools
and to reduce incidents of HiB,”
Leonard said.
Before moving on to committee
reports, attanasi welcomed back
board member ray Scipione.
“for those of you who don’t
know, ray had a horrific
automobile accident and it’s been
a tough three months, and we’re
glad to have you back on the
board,” attanasi said.
Board
member
Barbara
Berenato began committee reports
by relaying information from the
finance committee meeting,
including the fact that the prices of
school lunch will remain the
same, and will not be increasing.

“Summer recess has begun, and
our schools are extremely busy
with small renovations… Summer
programs have already begun: aP
classes, Project enrich and
achievement academy. the rain
gardens planted in front of the
high school are being used as
outdoor classrooms for our
summer programs. in addition our
sports teams are beginning their
conditioning for the fall. the high
school band will be performing at
Mt. Carmel ceremonies … i just
want to thank everybody for their
thoughts and prayers, especially
prayers; it’s good to be back,”
Scipione said.
Board member Linda Byrnes
welcomed and congratulated the
district’s several new hires, some
of which were in attendance at the
meeting.
Waterford twp. School Distirct
representative al Pangia remarked
on the Waterford School District’s
status as a Lighthouse District.
according to Pangia, the New
Jersey Department of education
looks at schools in the state and
when they see a district that has
made a dramatic turnaround in a
given year, they meet with the
district
superintendent
and
administration. if the state
believes they see an exemplary
degree of progress, that district is
named a Lighthouse District.
according to Pangia, it’s a rare
honor for a district that’s only
kindergarten through sixth grade,
like Waterford, to be named a
Lighthouse District.
an opportunity for public
comment was then given, during
which four new district hires,
including two speech language
therapists, a Spanish teacher and
an eSL teacher came forward to
express their gratitude and
excitement for their new positions
within the Hammonton School
District.
after public comment was
finished, the board moved on to
voting, starting with matters
involving finance.
Most notably, the board
resolved to:
• ratify the purchase order lists
for May and June 2019 in the
amount of $499,362.73
