RESPONDERS , from Page 1 over to the fire truck to climb inside and take a look , while the firemen enjoyed their lunch .
Charlene Zito , one of the organizers of the event and a member of the outreach team , was happy to see multiple first responders at the event . She explained to The Gazette that the lunch was a part of the Calvary Chapel ’ s outreach program , and that they do two outreaches a month .
“ Each month the outreach team does two different outreaches . First of the month is in Hammonton , so this month we ’ re doing the first responders ( lunch ), and then the second outreach we go to Atlantic City ,” Zito said .
Liz Shendock , another member of the outreach team , said that she thought many of the first responders would be too busy to sit and enjoy the food , so the
outreach team planned accordingly .
“ We kind of wanted to make it an open house thing ,” Shendock said .
The outreach team does other charitable events for the community of Hammonton , like handing out different goods door to door .
“ We do it in big tote bag , food and toiletries , and we ’ ll go and pick different spots in town in Hammonton … so we just went and knocked on doors and said ‘ here you go , here ’ s your food ,’” Zito explained to The Gazette .
Zito said that it feels amazing to see how grateful people are to the outreach team , and seeing how a little bit of help can go a long way .
“ That ’ s what we want to do , is spread the love ,” Zito said with a smile .
The Calvary Chapel pastor , Vince Lombardo , was in attendance at the event helping the volunteers and outreach team with the food . He mingled with everyone at the event , showing support for the first responders .
“ Let ’ s hope we can bring in a photo op ,” he said laughing .
While some of the first responders had to grab food and get back to work , some stayed and enjoyed the activities provided by the Calvary Chapel .
