was 74 degrees … the spray was
done over two different times, and
i think we’re very happy. i’ve
watched the lake for many years,
and it seems like this is the ticket,”
Giralo said.
terri Caruso-Cafiso provided a
report from the parks and recreation
commission.
“the Veterans Park monument
has been set and looks very nice out
there. everything is going well.
there has still been a blatant disre-
gard for the signage at the lake park
and people are urged to call the
cops if necessary. the parking is a
mess; people are just parking wherever they want … there was graffiti done at the bandstand at the lake
park, and they have a lead on who
may have done it. Due to that happening, the Kiwanis Club has an
anonymous donation to put cameras in. the lights are going to stay
on around the clock, and they’ll be
doing a new sign for the fourth of
July,” Caruso-Cafiso said.
She continued by reporting that
on the fourth of July there will be
moon bounces and face painting
stations for children. in addition to
the celebrations on July 4, Kiwanis
members will be sponsoring a
magic show at the park on July 29.
Green Committee member amy
Menzel spoke about the latest news
within their group and at the Hammonton Community Garden.
“the garden is going great. all
35th year.
“this is the first time we’re doing
this event. it is like a 150th anniversary thing. Maybe we’ll get to
come to it again in 50 years when
Hammonton turns 200. We’re looking forward to the [Mt. Carmel] festival next month and will see
everyone there,” ritz and Longo
said with a laugh.
Watercolor paintings of local
landmarks done by artist Marie Natale were on display and for sale.
Members of the Mt. Carmel Society dished out sausage and pepper
sandwiches for guests as they
sipped on cold lemonade under the
tent. Dan Bachalis and his wife,
Lions Club member Barbara
Neary-Bachalis, were both excited
about the success of the event.
“We have great people, great
good, great music and great
weather. What more could we ask
for today? there are so many factors working together out here. the
museum is open, the Lions Club is
all here, Mt. Carmel Society gets to
have an event before their big feast.
i know that this was meant to be a
special 150th event. People also get
to check out the beautiful new Veterans Park sign that went up a few
weeks ago,” Hammonton first candidate for town council Dan
Bachalis said.
there will be an official unveiling of that same Veterans Park
monument sign this summer, officials said.

HaMMONtON—the
Our
Lady of Mt. Carmel Society, Hammonton Lions Club and Historical
Society of Hammonton combined
to host the first ever Sunday in the
Park event on June 12. the event
was held to highlight the town’s
sesquicentennial celebration. the
Mt. Carmel Society displayed photos from years past while members
of the Lions Club advertised and
took orders for their Hammonton
themed throw blankets. also open
to the public was the Historical Society of Hammonton. Society President anne Marie DeCicco and her
husband, Lou, proudly displayed
the newest exhibits at the museum
on Vine Street.
“this is great. it’s beautiful outside and people can come see the
museum to get out of the sun for a
minute. We have a bunch of new
displays filled with stuff people
have let us put out,” anne Marie
DeCicco said.
Some of their newest displays include items from longtime Hammonton businesses, photos of some
of the town’s earliest government
officials and an entire collection of
antique toys and odds-and-ends that
were recently donated to the museum and are now for sale inside.
“everyone worked together on
this event. Between anne and anthony Jacobs, who is our vice president here at the museum and also
a member of the Mt. Carmel Society, that really worked out perfectly.
it’s good timing. there have been a
lot of events going on with the
sesquicentennial, and you never
know if there will be an open Sunday for the rest of the summer. the
museum has been busy all day, and
we’re happy with how many people
have come in and out. We’re proud
to display our newest business exhibit, and people are welcome to
come in and check it out,” Lou DeCicco said.
Live music was provided by
Package Goods Orchestra, a group
made up of members from Ocean
City and Galloway township. taking in the sounds were longtime
Mt. Carmel Society members anthony ritz and David Longo.
