The Hammonton High School Jazz Band was in attendance at the event , playing before the event had started , and when there was an intermission .
Nitro brewed coffee was available at the event , along with water and little snacks to munch on while enjoying the words of the poets .
Griess started the event by welcoming everyone to the event ,
“ Sit back and relax , have a snack and beverage , and celebrate the many voices of Hammonton ,” Griess said .
One of the poets , Jayden Woodly reflected on who he was , and who he wanted to become . He commented on his struggles , and his emotions in his piece . Throughout the piece however , he reflected on them , asking himself
hard questions in his piece . “ What are you trying to prove ?
Why does it matter ?” Woodly said .
The words may seem harsh , but in Woodly ’ s eyes , the words were motivation for the young poet . Asking himself what he can prove to himself , and why his voice matters .
Another poet who spoke at the event was Kayla Elizabeth Earns , reciting her poem “ Color Theory .”

The piece explores how Earns believes her specialty is writing , saying she only wants to write sonnets for a mysterious figure . She sees no grey area with the figure , and explained that their specialty was color theory .
Going into depth in her piece , Earns painted a picture for the crowd , saying that she should have known everything was a falsity . The figure talked of other loves prior , and the changes that happened over the course of the relationship . Claiming that the once brown eyes of the figure were now dull , Earns now saw the true colors of the figure , hence the name of the piece .
“ Subtle changes meant the ending of the painting that I loved you ,” Earns said .
