DeCi- cco was aided in receiving and assembling the photo display by her husband and fellow HSH member, Louis DeCicco, as well as HSH secretary Denise Saia and HSH member Barbara zinno. it was a long and methodical process to gather the 400-plus photos that were presented in the museum— and people are still submitting them to DeCicco—but she said the veterans deserve the recogni- tion, and she fully intends to keep the display going for the foresee- able future, potentially through Veterans Day. “i just got more pictures last night ... there was a knock at the door and somebody brought in pictures. So, it’s just ongoing and it’ll continue; i’m still going to collect them. if anybody has them, i told them to bring them. this is a living thing; it’s taking a life of its own. i love it; it’s going to keep going, and we’re going to add be- cause everybody wants to be re- Police make drug arrests by Gabe Donio G azette S taff W riter HaMMONtON—Police made several drug arrests recently in- cluding the following, Hammon- ton Police Chief robert Jones said. • On May 12 at 11:30 p.m., K-9 Officer Jonathan O’Neil and his K-9 Partner Havoc made a car stop at the intersection of Bellevue avenue and tilton Street, Jones said. “the dog conducted a search of the vehicle. around the driver’s side front the dog made an indica- tion. DeCicco said anybody inter- ested in submitting veteran photos for the display can still do so, and are advised to contact the HSH at 513-4068, or by visiting the mu- seum on the first Saturday of the month, or every tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. as expansive as the veterans display is, DeCicco said it likely only encompasses a minority of the men and women from Ham- monton who have answered the call of duty to serve their country. “Look at how many people we have on those monuments [in Vet- erans Memorial Park]. i probably did a small fraction of all of the people that died and gave up their lives going overseas. they rounded up in Hammonton; they had lists of people—i saw on one of the old newspapers. they had lists of who they wanted; it was unbelievable,” DeCicco said. a large crowd showed up to the HSH museum during the event to view the display, including both veterans and civilians of all ages. Vietnam War veteran William Oberempt, a former second-class aviation Storekeeper (aK2) in the U.S. Navy, attended “a Day in the Park” and said that it offered a great sense of pride to see his pho- tos on display among Hammon- ton’s many other veterans, and that the HSH did a great job at rep- resenting the town’s veteran pop- ulation. “i thought they did an excellent job; there’s a lot of work involved in what they did here … it makes the veterans feel that they’re being respected; it really does. i think it’s a great, great effort that they put into it, and it makes me feel good and proud to be part of it,” Oberempt said. “a Day in the Park” also fea- tured family tree Project presen- tations from eighth-grade students at Hammonton Middle School (HMS) and St. Joseph regional elementary School (SJreS). More than 40 projects were voluntarily submitted to the HSH by students from the classes of HMS teacher Jason Massara and SJreS teacher Mimi Va- See DAY, Page 14
