Gas main replacement coming for Lakeshore Dr .

PWTC , from Page 1 be contracted to perform the replacement , which will entail 56 two-by-two-foot holes being cut into the roadway in order to disconnect the current connections to the main being replaced . The holes will need to be made on East Lane , Queens Lane , Kings Lane , “ a small portion of ” West Lane , half of Fernwood Drive and the portion of Lakeshore Drive up to Queens Lane .
The main replacement will take place between the curb and sidewalk on the same streets . Once the new main is installed , the aforementioned connections will be reattached to it and the holes will be filled .
The committees discussed measures to ensure that they , the residents , South Jersey Gas and J . F . Kiely Construction are all coordinated regarding the project . Town Public Works Manager / Business Administrator Jeorme Barberio , who lives on Lakeshore Drive , said he had scheduled a meeting at his residence on May 17 for nearby residents to attend and inquire about potential impacts they may face from the roadwork .
Barberio also said the town would have to schedule a conference call , which was declared to occur on either May 12 or May 15 , to discuss the plan to repave the roads once the main replacement is complete . Barberio said he didn ’ t feel comfortable with crews cutting into the road without having an understanding of what the town expects to be done in regards to repairing and repaving the roads in question and feared it could become a situation similar to Washington Street , where roadway problems persisted after work was done .
“ It doesn ’ t sit well with me that they ’ re going to do the job ; they ’ re going to get all their main in and everything else and then we ’ re going to have to — it is the same situation with Washington Street ... Let ’ s have a general understanding … I ’ m going to give them an understanding of what our expectations are on a conference call ,” Barberio said .
Councilman and committee member Sam Rodio agreed with the decision to coordinate with South Jersey Gas and J . F Kiely beforehand , but expressed skepticism about whether a conference call was the best way to go about doing it .
“ I don ’ t think they should be doing a determination on this conference call … I think it should be more than a conference call to be honest with you . You ’ re going to be able to determine this on a conference call ?” Rodio said .
Barberio said once the gas main replacement on Lakeshore Drive and the intersecting streets is complete , a similar project will take place on Virginia and Elvins Avenues .
In other business , chief engineer of town engineering firm Adams , Rehmann and Heggan ( ARH ) Associates Ronald Curcio attended the meeting and reported that he was recently informed by water and wastewater services company A . C . Schultes of an issue with Well 4 at the town ’ s water department . The well , which is currently in need of a mesh screen replacement , is currently facing issues with the originally proposed Johnson Gravel Pack Screen potentially being lifted out of the well .
“ They are concerned about the design they originally proposed for the Johnson Gravel Pack , and they ’ re afraid with the way they have it structured right now , it
would possibly lift out of the well — there ’ s not enough resistance weight ,” Curcio said . Curcio said A . C . Shultes has since proposed an alternate solution of providing a relief stream above the main stream of the well at no additional cost to the town , but that they need a sign-off from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection ( NJ DEP ) to do so . Because the placement of a Gravel Pack above the stream of the well can cause cross-contamination once the well is demobilized , a permit is required from the DEP , according to Curcio .
Curcio said the town would have to consider holding off on the repair of Well 4 until after the summer if the DEP does not respond in a timely fashion , which would mean the town ’ s water department would have to operate exclusively on the currently active wells . Mayor Stephen DiDonato said the town will likely be able to get by with Wells 1 and 3 while the repair of Well 4 continues .
“ Well 1 and 3 will probably be enough to get us through ... Let ’ s keep going ,” DiDonato said . Curcio also reported that the concrete dump station pad being constructed at the wastewater treatment plant on Pleasant Mills Road is “ probably 90 percent ” complete with masonry and concrete work recently completed by TKT Construction Co .
Also present during the meeting was former police chief Frank Ingemi , who asked for relief for a water pressure problem he has been experiencing at 132 Chew Rd ., a property of which he is the landlord .
“ I have no water pressure . All the pipes need to be changed ... The toilets aren ’ t flushing correctly , there ’ s no water for showering and it doesn ’ t make for happy tenants . So , I ’ m looking for some kind of relief ,” Ingemi said .
Councilman and water and sewer committee chairman Steven Furgione said a new line would have to be run across Chew Road to fix the pressure issue , which would be both complicated and costly . In the meantime , Furgione advised for Ingemi to use a booster pump in the house , which would cost a couple thousand dollars , according to municipal utilities superintendent Anthony DeCicco . DeCicco said the Maplewood
Inn faced a similar issue that was aided by the addition of a booster pump .
“[ The Maplewood Inn is ] on that line that crosses the White Horse Pike , and I think a booster pump solved their problem ... You just hook it right in your house . It ’ s just a pump that pulls the water ; it boosts the pressure ,” De- Cicco said .
Barberio told Ingemi the committee will review prices for pumps brought to them by DeCicco and get back to him .
In other news , Barberio said the two-bay garage / filter building on Boyer Avenue commonly referred to as a pole barn is expected to be completed by mid-June .
Barberio also reported that FEMA and the state police met at town hall on May 8 regarding an agreement for a generator to be used by the town and public works department . An ordinance listing the agreement was expected to be introduced at the town council meeting on May 15 . Barberio said the contract would include the gas supply to the generator , the installation of the generator and the concrete pad on which it will sit .
There is a $ 96,000 umbrella for the generator project , $ 72,000 of which DiDonato said the town will recoup .
The PWTC / WSC will meet next on Thursday , June 15 at the offices of Adams , Rehmann and Heggan Associates , located at 215 Bellevue Ave .
