COMMISSION, from Page 1
ice-approved Community Forestry
Management Plan, which the Envi-
ronmental Commission has spent
the past several months preparing
for 2017 through 2021.
Environmental
Commission
vice-chair Brooke Sacco sat in for
chairman Daniel Bachalis, who
was excused from the meeting, and
brought up the discussion for the
tree bank by referencing an email
sent to her and other commission
members. The tree bank would
provide a continuous supply of
trees that would be re-planted every
three-to-four years around town.
Sacco also reported that the pro-
posal would call for 30-to-50 trees
to be rotated in that three-to-four-
year window, with the development
and maintenance of pot-in-pot
trees’ installation in 20-to-25-gal-
lon pots. The application would
also ask for 50 shade trees to be
planted at the Hammonton Recre-
ational Complex and for some of
the potted trees to be given away to
residents.
Sacco concluded from the email
that the proposal — which was due
on May 16 — was written out and
ready for submission; however, she
said she was told it might get re-
jected because the CFMP already
contained a similar plan that the
town was granted $3,000 to de-
velop.
Even if the application for CSIP
funding is approved, commission
member Angela Donio expressed
concern over the logistics of grow-
ing the tiny, potted trees in such a
short timeframe.
“How long is it going to take for
them to grow that big? When you
get these puny little trees, they stay
puny little trees ... I don’t know that
