Immigrants take the Oath of Naturalization administered by New Jersey Superior Court Judge Nelson Johnson
during a ceremony at town hall. Wednesday, May 3, 10:29 a.m.
HAMMONTON—The Hammonton Lions Club
and the Hammonton Sesquicentennial Commit-
tee will host a ceremony sealing the Sesqui-
centennial Time Capsule, on Saturday, May
20, at 10 a.m., in town hall.
The ceremony will include placing se-
lected memorabilia from Hammonton’s
150th anniversary into the capsule and re-
marks by town officials and committee and
club members. Light refreshments will be
served.
The Lions Club has been working with students and teachers in Ham-
monton High School’s Technology and Industrial Arts program to de-
sign and construct the capsule. The final design is modeled on a
grandfather’s clock constructed of oak. The clock motif was selected
in recognition of the Sesquicentennial’s logo, which features the Town
Clock at the intersection of Vine Street, Central Avenue and Third
Street.
“This has been a labor of love for everyone involved. The Lions Club
is proud to be a part of Hammonton’s 150th anniversary, and we have
been so excited and pleased to be able to contribute to the year-long
commemoration, and particularly to constructing and dedicating this
time capsule,” Hammonton Lions Club President Lisa Orsi DeKlerk
said.
The Lions Club created a special committee to handle preparations
for the Time Capsule. Led by Barbara Neary Bachalis, it also included
Carol Orsi, Rebecca Villani, Lori Orsi, Kristen Benedetto Wilson and
Lions Club President Lisa Orsi DeKlerk. The committee has been col-
lecting memorabilia from the community for the past year. The time
capsule’s contents will include official sesquicentennial materials, such
as the Founders’ Day program and video, as well as other printed and
video content from area businesses, families and cultural events. It is
anticipated that the Time Capsule will remain sealed until it is opened
again during Hammonton’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2066.
“We hope that everyone in town enjoyed and appreciated the various
events that were held throughout 2016. This was a signature moment
in Hammonton’s history, and we are thankful to all who participated in
the planning and execution of so many wonderful activities,” Harry
Stafford, the Sesquicentennial Committee’s chairperson, said.
The dedication is open to the public. Since the ceremony will take
place on the second floor of town hall, people are reminded that space
is limited and are requested to RSVP to [email protected] or at
703-0352 by May 15.
