“ It was built by different entities . The ground below , technically , we own ,” Rodio said .
Quigley then clarified the purpose for his inquiry .
“ My daughter started up ; she came off of tee-ball into girls ’ minors with the pitching machine . We were given two nights . At the last second , the second night was taken from us ; it was needed by boys ’ majors . I ’ m just starting to see a little bit of a discrepancy when it comes to some of the girls ’ stuff ,” Quigley said .
Quigley noted that he and his wife sent an email to Hammonton Little League .
“ The response we got was , ‘ well , usually we don ’ t even let the girls ’ and boys ’ minors use the batting cages ; this was the first time we ever extended time to the girls .’ I found that a little uncommon ,” Quigley said .
Quigley asked who was in charge of the buildings and facilities .
“ Who controls the Little League ? Do they just do their own thing ? Do they answer to anybody ?” Quigley said .
Councilman Steven Furgione replied .
“ The town owns the land . The buildings was built by all donors . As far as the schedule , the Little League board controls the schedule , so they set the times for the batting cages . They set up the schedule for the games . They set up the locations for the practices ,” Furgione said .
Quigley commented regarding the use across the various Little League teams .
“ If all the kids are paying the same — all the kids are playing the same — there should be equitable distribution of the facilities , in my opinion ,” Quigley said .
Commissioner James Borda , who sits on the Hammonton Little League board , addressed Quigley ’ s concerns .
“ I ’ ll take your concern back to the powers that be ; I see where you ’ re coming from . It really has been a past practice for smaller children not to have access to that — whether it ’ s the coach ’ s decision , or you just don ’ t want to get them in there at that age — but if they ’ re willing , I don ’ t see any

reason why they can ’ t have access to that , like anybody else ,” Borda said .
The next individual to address the commission was Joe Kalucki , who had appeared previously in regards to adding skate facilities in Hammonton . Rodio said that there were currently no new updates .
“ I already told you , and a month gone by isn ’ t going to change anything . It could be a year from now , a year-and-a-half from now . Is there a plan ? Yes . Is something going to happen somewhere , maybe not at 11th Street ? Yes . We don ’ t have a clue where yet . It ’ s just going to take some time ,” Rodio said .
Kalucki inquired as to what plans are in store for the dek hockey rink at the 11th Street Recreation Fields , and Furgione replied .
“ That rink will be put back in some sort of capacity ... I think the footprint is going to have to remain somewhat the same . We have Green Acres issues and it can ’ t be cut down to the ground ,” Furgione said .
Furgione said that dek hockey has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity .
“ There is a professional — I call it street hockey ; I think it ’ s called dek hockey — team that ’ s based out of Hammonton now that uses
Egg Harbor Twp .’ s rinks . There ’ s a middle school team and a high school team that ’ s based out of Waterford , and the number that I got was somewhere north of 175 kids from Hammonton who play street hockey — or dek hockey — in a combination of Egg Harbor Twp . and Waterford . I think part of the issue why it didn ’ t do well here , ultimately , is because we didn ’ t keep up with the rink properly ,” Furgione said .
Recreation Leader Denise Mazzeo said that Scott Taylor , the town ’ s landscape architect , is aware of the interest in a skate park .
“ He ’ s aware . We ’ ve had conversations . I just want to say : you ’ re not forgotten . I know that it may feel like it , because it went from you have a place , and then nothing . I get it . I do . You are not forgotten . There are definitely conversations . We have been talking about it ,” Mazzeo said .
Mazzeo noted that such plans do not occur quickly .
“ People don ’ t realize the amount of time — years — talking about the different ideas for the parks , then finally being able to reveal that for Hammonton Lake ,” Mazzeo said . Cappuccio concurred . “ It was nine years ,” Cappuccio said .
