Phyllis L. DeMarco
Phyllis L. DeMarco (nee Capoferri), 87, of Hammonton died peace-
fully on April 18, 2020 at the AtlantiCare Mainland Regional Medical
Center in Galloway Twp. The cause was COVID-19.
She was born Filomena Lilian Capoferri on May 22, 1932 in Elm, N.J.,
where she grew up on the family farm with her seven siblings and parents,
John and Antoinette Capoferri. Phyllis graduated from Lower Camden
County Regional High School, Lindenwold, N.J., in 1951, and was a hard
worker throughout her life. From the farm, to Gimbels department store,
to various Hammonton clothing manufacturers, she was always in motion.
When at work she always relished her corner workbench near the rest-
rooms, because coworkers would stop by on their way to chat. In fact,
she met her husband, Anthony in this way. She took pride in her work and enjoyed land-
scaping and maintaining her home on Lakeview Drive in Hammonton, where she lived with
her family since 1962. Phyllis also enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with others. She is
fondly remembered for her chicken-cutlets, Thanksgiving dinners (lasagna as an appetizer
and the world’s best stuffing) and her pot of “gravy” with meatballs on the stove every Sun-
day morning. Phyllis delighted in spending time with her family, especially her son John
with whom she lived. Her family will remember her ending each encounter with “Love you
more.” In later years, Phyllis looked forward to her semi-annual high school reunion lunch-
eons where her fellow classmates reminisced about dances, her sewing club skills and catch
phrase, “Wait a while.”
Phyllis is predeceased by her husband, Anthony F. DeMarco; her parents and her seven
siblings, Tony, Joseph and Vincent Capoferri, Rosie Csiack, Olympia Bonano, Carmella
James, and Louise Catona. Phyllis will be missed by her son, Anthony A. DeMarco and his
wife Sheila McKee DeMarco of Delray Beach Fla.; son, John A. DeMarco of Hammonton;
granddaughter, Danielle DeMarco Neufeld, her husband Gregory H. Neufeld, as well as
great-grandchildren, Hunter R. Neufeld and Jade R. Neufeld of New York, N.Y.
Funeral services and burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made in Phyllis’ name to Victory Bible Church, P.O. Box 833, Hammonton, NJ 08037.
Arrangements made by Marinella Funeral Home.

She developed a love of music at an early age, teaching herself the guitar

John Paul Murray
John Paul Murray, 84, died on April 16 in Hammonton.
Known as Jack, he was born and raised in Newark, N.J., one of four
children born to Grace and James Murray. Proud of his Newark heritage,
he found his hard knock upbringing as a blessing in achieving success in
business and life. He was a father and grandfather, he was active in hockey
coaching in Summit, N.J., and later in Manchester, N.H., coaching a
midget hockey team to a New England Championship. His stellar work
career as a court reporter earned him national honors as a shorthand speed
champion. He was the owner of a freelance court reporting firm, JP Mur-
ray and Associates in Short Hills, N.J. Later in life, he challenged himself
to pursue a lifelong desire to sing and studied voice with the great Met-
ropolitan opera star, Jerome Hines. He also discovered a passion for painting later in life
when he could no longer work due to a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Most importantly, Jack Mur-
ray was a constant cheerleader for all his young generation descendants in their interests
and talents, communicating his great love and admiration for them all. His message of self
improvement was uppermost in his mind, often reminding all young people to go after their
dreams and work hard at it.
He is predeceased by his younger brother, Michael Murray of Pittsburgh, Pa. He is sur-
vived by two siblings, sister Sheila Murray, of Somers Point, and James Murray of Cortland,
N.Y. His family in heaven welcomes him into heavenly rest.
Donations may be made in John’s name to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street
Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
