the Union soldier at Greenmount
Cemetery is one of Hammonton’s
oldest and most historic monuments. It was erected by the members of the D.A. Russell Post 68,
Grand Army of the Republic
(GAR). It was dedicated and
placed in its current spot on September 28, 1895.
The Grand Army of the Republic was formed in 1866 nationally.
