OBITUARIES

Paz L . Miranda , M . D .

Paz L . Miranda , M . D ., 81 of Hammonton , died suddenly on Wednesday , March 14 , 2018 in her native country of the Philippines .

Paz was born July 14 , 1936 in Mayantoc , tarlac a small town outside the city of Manila . She was a consistent honors student in her youth and graduated valedictorian from the Bukidon Provincial High School . She started at University of Philippines then later received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1960 from the University of Santo tomas ( USt ).

She moved to the United States and took up residency at Newark City Hospital in internal Medicine where she met her life partner , Dr . apolinario Miranda . after marrying in December of 1963 , they moved to the U . S . Virgin islands to obtain immigrant visas where they were both public health physicians for three years . they moved back to New Jersey where she worked as a staff physician at ancora Psychiatric Hospital . She continued her residency in internal Medicine at atlantic City Hospital where she finished her internal medicine specialty . She then accepted a position as a staff physician at the Vineland State School Developmental Center , treating the physically and mentally handicapped . She became chief of in-patient physicians and later deputy medical director . She finished her career there and retired in 1998 . along with being a dedicated physician , she was a devoted wife , mother and “ Lola ” to her six grandchildren . She balanced her career and family life , but family was always her priority . She loved spending time with family and friends at her home on the Great egg Harbor river in Mays Landing where she moved after retirement . there , she would host weekly mahjong gatherings and dinners with friends . She was an accomplished pianist and loved performing at local recitals . She also enjoyed weekly jaunts to the casinos with her husband . Besides visiting the Philippines annually , she loved traveling around the world .

She was active in various organizations including treasurer of association of Philippine Physicians in america ( aPPa ) 1999-2001 ; president of Philippine american Medical Society of N . J . ( PaMSNJ ) 2005-2006 ; treasurer for USt Medical association of tri-state area 1991-1996 ; chairman – foundation , PaMSNJ 2006-2007 ; board of governor – aPPa 2002- 2003 ; treasurer – PaMSNJ 1993-1997 . She also was named Mother of the Year of 2000 by the filipino american association and Mrs . aPPa in 2009 . She was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at St . Vincent DePaul in Mays Landing , volunteering in local church organizations .

Paz is predeceased by her parents , Vicente and feliza Lumibao and her brother , Nestor . She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her family , which includes her husband , apolinario ; her five children , Michael ( Maria elena ), Mark ( Chona ), Pol ( ronnie ), Joyce and Philip ( Cari ) and six grandchildren , Phaedra , fiona , isabella , roland , Kannon and elle . She is also survived by her sister , aida Pineda . in lieu of flowers , the family is asking for memorial contributions made payable to the Santiago institute , a high school in the Philippines where she was a board member , and sent to apolinario Miranda , 905 Morris Lane , Mays Landing , NJ 08330 for an auditorium stage to be named on her behalf .

Visitation will be on april 14th at 9:30 a . m . at St . Vincent ’ s in Mays Landing , followed by an 11 a . m . Memorial Mass .

Maria M . Longo

Maria M . Longo , 59 of Mullica , died on Saturday , March 24 , 2018 at the Linwood Care Center with her family at her side .

Born in Camden on January 11 , 1959 , she was a lifelong South Jersey resident . Maria formerly worked for refresh food Mart in Hammonton .

She is survived by her husband , Luis Crespo ; her four children , alesha Longo , Je ’ Lina Longo , Matthew Longo ; Dominique Longo ; five grandchildren , Shane Martin Jr ., Shayla Martin , Kareem Longo , Je ’ Mar Longo and Valen Walker . funeral Services are private and at the convenience of the family . arrangements made by Carnesale funeral Home .

Hank Burkett

Hank Burkett , 60 of Hammonton , died suddenly on friday , March 30 , 2018 in atlantic Care regional Medical Center Mainland Division .

Born in Millville , he lived in Hammonton for more than 22 years . Hank formerly worked for Durand Glass of Millville as a machinist .

He was predeceased by his parents , Henry and Dorothy Burkett ; his sisters-in-law , Josephine Marandino and tina Casadia . Hank is survived by his wife , Maria a . Burkett ( nee Casadia ); his daughter , Dorothy Burkett of Hammonton ; three sisters , Penny , Sherry and Jackie ; his sisterand brothers-in-law , Louann and William Jones , Louis Casadia Jr . and Michael Marandino all of Hammonton ; his nieces and nephews , Michael , Louis ( Kathleen ), David ( Michele ), Christina ( Jim ), Jennifer ( Mike ), Louis a . ( ramnit ) and his great nieces and nephews , Victoria , Vincenzo , aydin , Nathan , David and Mary rose . a Mass of Christian Burial was held on tuesday , april 3 in St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . Joseph ’ s , 226 french St ., Hammonton . Burial followed in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery , Hammonton . arrangements made by the Carnesale funeral Home .

Dennis Eugene Ezekiel Dennis eugene ezekiel , age 73 of Collings Lakes , died on March 30 , 2018 in the comfort of his home in the early morning hours .

Born in 1944 in Camden , he was a 1962 graduate of Bishop eustace and went on to the air force from 1963 to 1967 in Scotland and Germany . He married Kathleen Smith in 1971 , and participated as a Cub Scout leader and little league coach . He worked for Dennison Manufacturing for more than 15 years and retired as an advertising rep . with the Catholic Star Herald after more than 22 years .

He is predeceased by his parents , John ezekiel and ethel Mayer and by his brothers , John , George , Jack , eddie , and albert ezekiel . He is survived by his wife of 46 years ; his four children , Sheri , erik , Joseph Sr . Roberta J . Capella

roberta J . “ Bert ” Capella ( nee Prince ), 84 of Mullica township , died on Wednesday , March 28 , 2018 .

Born in Mullica , she spent her entire life in atlantic County . Bert worked for 16 years at the ideal Diner and spent 26 years as a bus driver , 16 of those years at Oakcrest High School and 10 years at ryder Bus Company in Cologne .

She was predeceased by her husband , Peter a . Capella Sr .; her parents , robert J . and florence Prince ; her granddaughter , Mary ; her-son-in law , anthony Migliacco ; her brothers , William , robert , thomas , Joe , Dave ; her sisters , Sally robertson , Mary Mickey and florence ritter . Bert is survived by her children , Kathleen Migliacco of egg Harbor , Walter r . Capella and his wife Penny of Mullica , Peter a .
