COMMISSION, from Page 1
Paddle Board Yoga to the
community. Haber is certified in
stand up paddle board rescue and
would be on the water along with
a six person class.
“So Mr. Haber is presenting
something that will take place on
the water and because he’s
charging money we get into a
different realm from a for-profit
organization paying us for use of
the fields and things of that nature.
We don’t really have a fee setup
for someone to use our facility and
charge to make a profit. This
commission would be taking on
the responsibility of allowing a for
profit entity to have use of the
lake. That’s why we are presenting
it to the board here today,”
outgoing Hammonton Public
Works Manager / Business
Administrator Jerome Barberio
said.
“I think what we are going to
have to do first in the next month
is contact our insurance agent for
the town. He’s the one that is
going to tell us how high of a risk
this if for the town after looking at
your insurance. It’s a great idea
but we have to get past some of
these hurdles first,” Councilman
Sam Rodio said.
The proposal will move ahead
once the town’s risk manager
reviews all the proper insurance
documentation.
Incoming recreation leader
Denise Mazzeo read a list of nine
use of facility approvals needed.
The list contained three family
reunions and a memorial service at
the Kiwanis Pavilion, three events
at the Canoe Club, the St. Joseph
Elementary School Field Trips at
the Lake Park and finally free
community Yoga by Blue Lotus
Yoga on the grass by the Kiwanis
Pavilion. Commission member
Sam Rodio Jr. made a motion to
approve the entire list, seconded
by Paul Ordille and passed
unanimously.
From there, the 2019 Parks
budget was discussed briefly.
There is a small rise from last
year’s budget mainly for fertilizer,
seed and mulch. The budget will
move on to town council for
approval.
The meeting ended with a word
from Chairman Louis Cappuccio
about Barberio, who will be
stepping down on March 29.
“It was an absolute pleasure
working with Jerry. He was the
kind of person who no matter what
was happening he was there when
you needed him. It is going to take
some getting used to not having
somebody like Jerry here. I wish
him the best in everything he will
be doing in the future. He’s always
welcomed back here, at least in
my book, and I’m sure everybody
else’s,” Cappuccio said.
Ordille echoed the sentiment.
“Jerry was a sponge of
information and it’s incredible
what he’s done for the town
behind the scenes. I know your
phone is going to ring a lot for the
next year and that’s a testament to
what you’ve been able to
accomplish,” Ordille said.
Barberio ended the meeting
with a statement of his own.
“I moved here from New York
in September of 2002 and Louie
(Louis Cappuccio) was actually
the first person I met. I was on my
way to work around 5 a.m., at the
old Capital Bagel and I ran into
him, ordering his usual egg whites
and spinach. And I said to myself,
if everyone is as nice as this guy
then I have it made,” Barberio
said.
The next Parks and Recreation
meeting is scheduled for April 16
at town hall.
